Sweet.

Tons of prizes given to those who enter, which only entails downloading an app, free or paid. There's a way to enter through a form as well. 25 entries per day max, but honestly, who's going to be downloading 25 apps a day? It goes without saying that I hope I win. And from reading the rules, it almost sounds like one winner will be chosen and will win the $10,000 () iTunes gift card, the 17" MBP, the 32GB touch and the Time Capsule, presumably the 1TB. But I'm sure its that one prize will go to each winner.

Good luck to you all. Honestly, I hope at least someone on these forums wins so they can post (with pics) and brag! And it would be good to know someone from the gang won.

There seems to be a mistake. You linked to the national deficit counter.

I thought that was the number of brain cells I killed last weekend, or at least an estimation of how many will be killed this weekend.

Congrats Apple!

Downloaded a few free apps today for good measure.

I wouldn't know what to do with a $10000 iTunes gift card though. I have a $100 card now, and so far I've spent $0.00 of it, since Xmas.

USA is doing pretty well then. Not even $1 billion yet. Kudos USA! P.S. Wrong forum.

How accurate is that counter? Is that just a fake java script thing or something? Or is it actually linked to the real number of downloads in real time?

The counter gets its info from this file:

http://www.apple.com/autopush/us/itu.../countdown.txt

Which I imagine is the total number of apps sold, and how many apps were sold in the last hour. It's not exact, but about an hour old.

I tried entering using the free entry method. I get an error when I submit the info.

P.S. The oldest you can be is 89 years old. It won't accept birthdates before 1920.

Apparently you can only enter the form once per day, even though 25 is the small type limit.

So the countdown just hit 998 million this morning. It'll likely be over today or tomorrow.

I'm doing my part. Btw, I'm still iffy on Uno. I used to play it as a kid, but I've been playing this one for over a week and haven't won a single bloody game.

The prize will be awarded for the entry (either through an app download or through the non-purchase online entry) sent immediately following the download of the 999,999,999th app.
So you could only be the winner if you downloaded the last app before 1 billion was reached?

It's still not entirely clear.

"The prize will be awarded for the entry, sent immediately following the download of the 999,999,999th app."

With a comma thrown in there, it reads differently, as if the award will be sent to the winner immediately following the 999... app download.

Most people don't NEED a 17" MBP. In fact, I'd say most people don't even really want one. Too big. Some do, but probably not most.

....... He/She's set for life on the iTunes/App store. And is incredibly lucky. And got more than they need/could even use.

And this is why kids aren't allowed to gamble. They are too darn lucky!

I don't even know what I would do with a $10,000 iTunes credit. I would feel bad about not using it, but I don't even know what I would want. A bunch of apps, some music, sure, but then what? I already own more music then I know what to do with.
I guess you could get an Apple TV, but I already have more TV and movie entertainment options then I know what to do with also.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Couldn't you send that iTunes credit to someone else as a gift?

In some states you could buy 1 song with the credit, then get the rest of the credit back as cashy money.
