Rand Paul was assaulted in his own home by a neighbor and I haven't seen a 'why' given yet.

5 fractured ribs. And the guy was only charged with 4th degree assault even though he supposedly attacked Sen. Paul from behind. Something seems real suspect with this story.

I'd expect something like this if the Senator forgot to pay the neighbor for last week's stash or something. "Neighbor" suggests a prior connection, this wasn't random. And "neighbor inside house" possibly == neighbor was given a key. This neighbor must have some kind of leverage, or they'd be doing maximum charges, like they always do with random crime.

Saw this on Twitter a few moments ago. Very interesting ....

Not to mention this little tidbit ....

The federal assault statutes include:

18 U.S.C. 351(e) (assaulting a Member of Congress, certain senior executive officials, Justices of the Supreme Court, a Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate, or nominee to the Supreme Court)

Penalties: committed with a dangerous weapon or if personal injury results—imprisonment for not more than 10 years
otherwise
—imprisonment for not more than 1 year
I suspect Sen. Paul may not be entirely blameless in this situation and is "highly motivated" to end this matter quickly and quietly.

Speaking of Twitter, a rare tweet from Matt Drudge:

Brazile writes she was haunted by murder of DNC Seth Rich, and feared for her own life, shutting the blinds so snipers could not see her

Apparently there was some sort of property related dispute in years past. Not sure that's what's going on now.

The bike riding woman who flipped off Trump's golf motorcade - has been fired from her job.
Briskman had been working as a marketing and communications specialist for a Virginia-based federal contractor, Akima, for six months. She thought it best to alert the HR department to the online fuss. Bosses then called her into a meeting, she said.

“They said, ‘We’re separating from you,’” Briskman told the Huffington Post. “‘Basically, you cannot have lewd or obscene things in your social media.’ So they were calling flipping him off obscene.”

She said the company was displeased she had used the image as her profile picture on Twitter and Facebook, and told her it violated social media policy and could hurt the company’s reputation as a government contractor.

Briskman said she pointed out that her social media pages do not mention her employer, and that the incident happened on her own time. She also said another employee had written a profane insult about someone on Facebook, but had been allowed to keep his job after deleting the post and being reprimanded.

Virginia, however, has “at will” employment laws, meaning private-sector employers can fire people for any reason.

Suddenly, the 50-year-old mother of two found herself looking for a new job.
There's no indication Trump even saw it, much less made phone calls. Sounds like Akima did it without prompting. This is wrong - if they want to control what she does on her off time, they should buy those hours from her. As it is, they're taking some of her freedom without paying for it. Sounds like theft to me.

Their motivations are pretty clearly political. I feel like there's a legitimate case to be made that she was fired for her views.

it's environment and context. Google guy said it at work, distributed it at work. Bike gal's work forgave another coworker who ranted about BLM on work accounts.

She was anonymous until she told them out of a sense of honesty, I guess.

Lesson? don't tell.

The co-worker used profanity in writing, attached to the company. But the co-worker was a guy, and it all blew over. There could be some labor-law issues here after all. She's talking to the ACLU.

Oh sure, I'm accused of murdering that person, but it was on my own time.

A murderer could expect legal recourse, but wouldn't necessarily lose his or her job.

One of our Fab Ops managers was arrested in a weekend prostitution sweep run by Sherriff Joe Arpaio. He “left Motorola to peruse opportunities elsewhere.” AKA quit or be fired.

Yes, yes, giving the finger is the same as murder and prostitution. Totally.

We should round up everyone who gives the finger and put them in jail. Reprobates.

Giving the finger to a President is neither illegal nor unethical. Even if it's a popular President. It's a form of political speech, giving the opinion of the fingered person. It also shows this person has been careful all their lives around machinery and wild animals.

This was retweeted in my feed. I haven't properly read all of it, but it appears a court ruled emailing a public officials private email after they requested for you not to is a crime.

Also, check out journalism in the UK: http://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-418800...trust-question

My knee-jerk reaction is why can't our journalists be this aggressive, but then I realize police or private security would assault the journalist after no more than 10 seconds of this.

Or the Gianoforte would body-slam the journo himself.

I'm surprised the reporter didn't get jumped anyway. Perhaps the bodyguard(s) had strict orders not to create a scandal on camera.

Kudos to the reporter, and the cameraman (or woman). I don't know if I would have taken the risk. I'm allergic to fists.

I think it's a cultural difference. The press has a very adversarial relationship with the MPs from what I've seen.

No guns means our politicians (save for the PM) don't tend to need security guards. Or the guards are much less aggressive anyway.

MPs or peers of the House of Lords are expected to not punch people for asking questions. Or for saying anything at all really. Most of them don't tend to be that punchy anyway. Certainly not towards younger men typically fitter and stronger than they are. There is no winning for them there. They either get shat on for attacking the press or they get their ass handed to them. Or both.

I'd like to see stronger, more aggressive journalism over here but it sounds like you lot need it way more. I realise that Sorkin is a total lefty but did any of you watch The Newsroom? I loved that show and admired their vision of what news should be, though I doubt their nostalgic assertions that that was what it was ever like.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Maine voted to expand Medicaid last night after LePage vetoed 5 bills doing that in the past.

Reports now saying he now refuses to expand Medicaid anyway.

Anyone catch this article?
https://www.politico.com/magazine/st...porters-215800

“Everybody I talk to,” he said, “realizes it’s not Trump who’s dragging his feet. Trump’s probably the most diligent, hardest-working president we’ve ever had in our lifetimes. It’s not like he sleeps in till noon and goes golfing every weekend, like the last president did.”

I stopped him, informing him that, yes, Barack Obama liked to golf, but Trump in fact does golf a lot, too—more, in fact.

Del Signore was surprised to hear this.

“Does he?” he said.

“Yes,” I said.

He did not linger on this topic, smiling and changing the subject with a quip.
“If I was married to his wife,” Del Signore said, “I don’t think I’d go anywhere.”
“Shame on them,” Del Signore said over his alfredo. “These clowns are out there, making millions of dollars a year, and they’re using some stupid excuse that they want equality—so I’ll kneel against the flag and the national anthem?”

“You’re not a fan of equality?” I asked.

“For people who deserve it and earn it,” he said. “All my ancestors, Italian, 100 percent Italian, the Irish, Germans, Polish, whatever—they all came over here, settled in places like this, they worked hard and they earned the respect. They earned the success that they got. Some people don’t want to do that. They just want it handed to them.”

“Like NFL players?” I said.

“Well,” Del Signore responded, “I hate to say what the majority of them are …” He stopped himself short of what I thought he was about to say.

Schilling looked at her husband, Dave McCabe, who’s 67 and a retired high school basketball coach. She nodded at me. “Tell him,” she said to McCabe, “what you said the NFL is …”

McCabe looked momentarily wary. He laughed a little. “I don’t remember saying that,” he said unconvincingly.

Schilling was having none of it. “You’re the one that told me, liar,” she said.

She looked at me.

The NFL?

“Niggers for life,” Schilling said.

For life,” McCabe added.

He said he was going to bring back the steel mills.

“You’re never going to get those steel mills back,” she said.

“But he said he was going to,” I said.

“Yeah, but how’s he going to bring them back?”

“I don’t know,” I said, “but it’s what he said, last year, and people voted for him because of it.”

“They always say they want to bring the steel mills back,” Frear said, “but they’re going to have to do a lot of work to bring the steel mills back.”

He hasn’t built the wall yet, either. “I don’t care about his wall,” said Frear, 76. “I mean, if he gets his wall—I don’t give a shit, you know? But he has a good idea: Keep ’em out.”

He also hasn’t repealed Obamacare. “That’s Congress,” she said.

And the drug scourge here continues unabated. “And it’s not going to improve for a long time,” she said, “until people learn, which they won’t.”

“But I like him,” Frear reiterated. “Because he does what he says.”

...

Next to Bala was a gray-haired man who told me he voted for Trump and was happy so far because “he’s kept his promises.”

I asked which ones.

“Border security.” But there’s no wall yet. “No fault of his,” the man said.

What else? “Getting rid of Obamacare.” But he hasn’t. “Well, he’s tried to.”

What else? “Defunding Planned Parenthood.” But he didn’t. “Not his fault again,” the man said.

I asked for his name. “Bill K.,” he said. He wouldn’t give me his last name. “I don’t trust you,” he said.

Excerpts:
More Hall: “The other women that they’re using to corrobrate: number one, one was 19, one was 17, one was 16. There’s nothing wrong with a 30-year-old single male asking a 19-year-old, a 17-year-old, or a 16-year-old out on a date."
"Yeah!" Covington County GOP Chairman William Blocker tells me he'd consider voting Moore even if hard proof of sexual abuse emerged.

"There is NO option to support to support Doug Jones, the Democratic nominee. When you do that, you are supporting the entire Democrat party."

Here's a fun one.

http://beta.latimes.com/politics/la-...110-story.html

Brett J. Talley, President Trump’s nominee to be a federal judge in Alabama, has never tried a case, was unanimously rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Assn.’s judicial rating committee, has practiced law for only three years and, as a blogger last year, displayed a degree of partisanship unusual for a judicial nominee, denouncing “Hillary Rotten Clinton” and pledging support for the National Rifle Assn.

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, on a party-line vote, approved him for a lifetime appointment to the federal bench.
