I'm tired of AOL, all I use it for anymore is my email address. I need recommendations for email alternatives. I'm on a cable modem, Safari's my browser, and I like the ladies.

if its just for communicationw with friends and maybe light business transactions (online order confirmations...etc..) - I would think the free ones should suffice (yahoo, msn..etc..). I actually have like a whole bunch... basically just sign up a different one for everything I do (i.e. all my frequent flyer and other travel stuff go travelxxxxx, Apple corrospondence goto applexxx etc...). The benefit of this is that if I move or change provider, I don't have to update a whold bunch of accounts.

However, I would never trust that to use for bank statement and stuff that I want to archive. If you're going to pay, might as well setup your own domain and pop account (either using a cheap linux box or through an ISP - they're dirt cheap these days).

Use the one at http://www.fastmail.fm/

It's free, has great uptime, and has an absolutely killer web interface (but you can use IMAP, too).

I payed $12 for a lifetime account to remove ads and get more bandwidth/storage space, but the free one works great, too.

If you just want email - don't get .Mac!

Get your own domain. You can get email hosting for about $30US/year once you buy the domain.

Then you have a snazzy address like:

[email protected]

Do it. You know you want to.

I reacon on getting your own domain is best, but www.macmail.com is the 'Macitosh Hotmail' (their terms)- and its damned good too- you can use it as a browser based account, or with any pop program (i.e. OSX Mail)- and no spam what so ever- an its totally free!

I can give you a free pop3 address if you want...no webmail option at this time, though.
