I just ordered a 60GB model.. a brand-new "old" one, the kind that came with the dock, etc.. I've been doing some research and it seems that the HD puts noise into the headphones when it is accessing.. Apparently this affected some 40GB 4G iPods too, have you heard this on yours?

No noise, sounds better than my 3rd gen 20gb... But not all photos sync... for whatever reason - I don't know.

This was widely reported about the first 4Gs but few have brought it up since then, and I have never heard about it regarding photo units.

i've never heard any noises from the HD spinning...

however i HAVE noticed one problem, when i have my ipod plugged in in the car and i plug the charger cable into one of those eliminator transformers (to make an outlet in your car), i get some background fuzz.. it's really annoying when it does happen (not all that frequently), and unplugging it stops the noise (i have heard lots of reports about all kinds of audio devices getting noise from power supplies though)

There's a huge thread on the iPodlounge site about this issue, it seems that the headphone amp in iPod photos doesn't deal well with low impedance headphones.. ones with with than 32ohms. That's the main thing I worry about now... I'm just getting impatient I suppose and over analyizing everything... two more days until it arrives.......

I have a 30GB HP iPod Photo, and it DOES have the headphone noise problem that you're talking about.

I guess others just lucked out.

Currently in talks with HP to get a replacement.

Never had that problem on a 60 GB photo (1st version with dock). I can tell the HD's spinning when I plug it into the computer and transfer files however.

I've had my 60GB iPod for a while and its the one that came with the dock, etc... I am happy to say that it has none of the issues that I was worried about. I like it even more than the 3G 30GB I had for while. Thanks to everybody who responded to this thread
