I want to backup my iTunes catalog. I can just copy the songs to a dvd or backup using a program like Apple backup. Is there a difference? Not using backup I will have to do it manually; using backup will do it auto. Is that it?

Well, I think that using a program like backup is quicker in the long run, since it knows which files you've already backed up and only adds new ones after that. But I don't know for sure.
