My friend found (I don't know how) these shocking pictures of a rare, limited edition Lego set. I am dismayed, to say the least.

I think that has more to do with lighting and the flash.

If I remember correctly these were supposed to be by some artist.

They aren't intended as nazi propaganda.. or anything sick.

Correct. They were done as 'art', not as production pieces, meant to show the world what it could have been like if the nazis won the war, how they'd have little lego sets like this, or something like that. I can't remember.

Yeah, I was pretty sure they were fake, but I couldn't find anything wrong with them (besides their content, which I think is pretty sick).

I think it's disgusting.

And it's not art.

It may be commentary, but not art.

Jesus fucking christ. Do you people not know how to use google? It's that rounded text field with the looking glass icon in the top right corner of your browser?

The Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Poland, has information about Zbigniew Libera on its web site. After entering the site, select the index of artists and scroll down to Zbigniew Libera's name. This information was good on February 24,2002.

WARNING! The above mentioned site has material that may be disturbing to some people.

PLEASE NOTE! Many people have written to me asking where they can buy these sets. As far as I know, Zbigniew Libera only made three copies of these sets. They were sold for $7,500.00 each in the mid-1990s. I do not know if they have since been offered for sale. If and when they are, I expect the price will be much higher.

The Jewish Museum in New York, NY, has these sets as part of a display from March 17 to June 30, 2002. The exhibit is Mirroring Evil: Nazi Imagery/ Recent Art.

Quoted for emphasis. This has been around for nearly ten years. It was quite a shocker when first released. It certainly got the intended message across.

And Kilby: It is art. I am not sure why you think that art can't commentate or comments can't be art.
