Maybe all forms of SQL hate me..
I think this belongs in this forum...
Anyway, I've been trying to install postgresql so that I can use the adium SQL logger, and I ran into a couple problems. I followed
these instructions, 'cept they don't seem to be working.
I created my postgres user, typed:
sudo chown -R postgres /usr/local/pgsql/
su - postgres
/usr/local/bin/initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data
/usr/local/bin/pg_ctl -D /usr/local/pgsql/data -l postgres.log start
And then it says "postmaster successfully started"
I assume that means it's
working.
So then I type:
/usr/local/bin/createdb test
And get:
createdb: could not connect to database template1: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
I tried re-doing it all, but it still didn't work
Meep! What do I do?
I'm especially pissed because I never got MySQL to work.
EDIT: weeeeeellll, I was trying to stop the server using:
/usr/local/bin/pg_ctl stop -D /usr/local/pgsql/data/
and it said:
"pg_ctl: could not find /usr/local/pgsql/data//postmaster.pid
Is postmaster running?"
I even restarted the server, then tried to stop it and it said the same thing.
So I guess it's not actually starting up?
