I have an iPhone. I live in the XXX area. Why is it that when someone local (ie. also in XXX) calls me, my iPhone displays "+1 (XXX) XXX-XXX" as the number, instead of just "(XXX) XXX-XXX"?

Are there any .plists or something that I could edit on the phone to prevent it from doing this? Is there anything I can add to let it know that XXX is local to me?

I see that occasionally on my phone. Just ignore it. The "1" is not necessary.

It may have to do with where the number is actually from (like a calling card, etc.)

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

I believe it has to do with how the CALLER (or his service) identifies his phone.

Including the +xx country code prefix is increasingly standard.
