Earlier today, I came from the Macromedia launch of Studio 8 and video is a big part of it. And lots of the apps have already been Adobe-ized, with the menu palettes, not that that part is a bad thing.

I find this trend very disconcerting as well. I don't think it offers the user any possibilities to "optimize" their investments. It's just a way of jacking up the price for a "Premium" version.

Seems a bit early for CS3. And the two versions thing is just going back to the days of Photoshop CE. Except they already have a consumer edition, it's called Elements. They are just going to confuse the market.

Full Frame sounds like a video app. Perhaps Premier + After Effects?

As far as Apple Photo Pro, even though the description in the article indicates "iPhoto on steroids" that isn't what FCP to iMovie. But it seems like an insane move to try to compete with Pshop. Unless Apple thinks the market is pissed at Adobe or something.

Well if Apple decides to compete with Adobe with Photoshop they're going to be pissed either way. So at least Apple could make sure to really piss Adobe off with an amazing product.

That said it's a catch 22. Office you can kind piss off M$ and you're OK because the features most people use with Office aren't insanely complicated. I don't think even Apple could provide a solution to compete with Adobe's creative suite before them dropping the platform would seriously hurt Apple.

I don't think Apple will pull out a "Photoshop" unless Adobe pulls Photoshop for the Mac, or they do something really bad to make Steve mad.

Apple needs a Office replacement before it needs a Photoshop replacement.

Yah, and pissing off just about every ISV other than Delicious Monster is probably not a great idea.

Apple has created more opportunities for ISV than they've destroyed. If you don't want Apple to "steal" your idea, don't do obvious things, implement them half-way and then charge too much for them.

Agreed, it's just funny how a lot of people myself included fall into the trap of wanting Apple to make everything. Granted word processing and presentation software, e-mail software, web browsers, and IM clients aren't exactly areas where too many people want in. Things like Video editing software, and photo editing are areas where Apple didn't NEED to go. Though with Final Cut Pro Apple wanted to take on the video market and did it well.
Though I will say that a lot of ISVs haven't had great experienecs with Apple. Take note, of all the apps in my dock... about half are made by Apple.

You're wrong about that. Apple didn't want to lose the DV market it helped create because Adobe couldn't keep Premiere stable on the mac, so they did what they had to do. Its the same thing they did with Safari. They wanted to make sure people were having a Mac-like experience on their macs.

Why did they develop Motion? Why did they develop Shake? Because these things were not taking advantage of what the mac has to offer, rather choosing to provide a sort of feature parity (imparedy) and you end up with what you said in the other post about MM apps. Bad windows ports.

Apple has had to step up to ensure that the Mac experience stays unique. IE? crap. Premiere? Crap. After Effects? Okay, but falling way behind on the mac side. iChat? I didn't see anyone doing voice or video over chat back then. especially not on the Mac.

Apple had to create these apps, because they had to make sure there is a differentiation in the market place. Ironically, Microsoft is one of the few large software companies that seem to at least try to make their Mac apps more mac-like than the PC counterparts. Maybe they're not doing a good enough job, but it shows that they at least see that there is a higher standard. But yeah, Powerpoint pretty much sucks. IE was good, until it just got so crashy you just couldn't use it.

Okay I'll stop.

IE wasn't very mac like. The GUI was not standard.. didn't even use the same theme.
