Hi
I want to back up my Blue-ray Movie collection to .mp4.
Can I connect my MacBook Pro to the PS3 via DVI to HDMI & then use a software programme to back up the movie's?
I do not want to compress the movie's (so each movie will be about 14GB)
2.4 intel core duo 256mb graphics card
Is this possible?
How is the sound transferred through DVI?

No; the DVI port is for output only. DVI does not support audio.
If you want to rip BluRay disks, you need to buy an external drive (about $150-200). You'll probably have to run Windows to get decent ripping software.

Thank you for the info
I thought that was the way I would have to go but then I thought there is no harm in asking the question.
