My friend brought his old pc over today, and was asking for my help with getting his linksys 802.11g wireless card to work in his desktop - a p3 750mhz w/ windows xp.

Well the card wouldnt detect, and it wouldnt really boot up with it in it. We figured that the wireless card was bad, or the motherboard was getting shot.

So on a whim, I put his card in my powermac g4 733, and then booted. I figured at least the powermac would detect the card, and be able to tell me the card rev/etc or something in system info.

But to our surprise, when I opened up system prefs, it brought to my attention that a new airport card was installed. I clicked ok, and went to the network settings. I selected join wireless network, put in the ssid of my airport extreme basestation, and it got me on the network! I was rolling on the ground because it would work with my mac, which linksys says windows 98/2k/me/xp only, and wont work on his

Im not sure if I am the first/only person to try this, but it works

Nope your not the first, sorry

I wanted to bring my WiFi network up to, at least, 128 encryption so I had inquired about this before. My 867QS had the older airport card. I am now running WPA on it. Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I love when stuff like this happens, your friend must have been ripped lol.

would i be able to install the Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter in my dual 533 pm and use it to talk to my powerbook g4 12" with an ae card installed? I mainly would want to be able to use the the powermacs dialup account and printer from the pb wirelessly and share files too.
