I have just bought a G4 466, and was wondering if OS X PB will work on it. I know it will not work on the TI Book. It works fine on my Pismo.
Thanks in advance.

I doubt Joe Cool knows what he's talking about. People have thought that Mac OS X client Public Beta 1H39/2E14 would not be able to work with or install on a system with Mac OS 9.1/9.1.1. This is false. It will install on such a system. Although you will not be able to run Classic. Due to that, you probably would be able to run Mac OS X client Public Beta 1H39/2E14 on your 466MHz (Digital Audio) Power Macintosh G4 tower.

Wrong Norm
The MWSF machines are new hardware -- 133mhz bus, 4x AGP, digital audio. The PB kernel is NOT going to support the new architecture. SO <Joe Cool> is right -- wait a few days.

You know... That's likely NOT TRUE. The reason for this being was Apple was probably already in devlopment of the new G4 towers when they introduced 2E14 and 1H39. I mean, have you ever tried Mac OS X client Public Beta or Darwin UNIX on a Digital Audio G4? If you have, then I guess I'm wrong. But I seriously am in doubt that it won't work. Although, I do have to agree with Joe Cool on one thing... Considering Mac OS X client 1.0 will be out in 17 days... It wouldn't be worth it to buy/barrow and install Public Beta on to your machine. But I ask this question for you cowerd, did you try installing Public Beta onto a Digital Audio G4?

here you Norm:
I don't know about latest builds, but the word from Apple developers is that Public Beta absolutely will not work on 2001 G4's unless you're really really lucky (and that would just be because you were really really lucky).
From an Appleinsider thread on installing Public Beta on 2001 G4's.

the problem is NOT whether it will work with 9.1 or not, it is whether the ROM-in-RAM file on the pb cd will work on the hardware platform.

it won't

it's not designed to operate.

it crashes on boot because of this.

if it does work, then you got screwed and received the older mobo and it is labeled as a new 466 (which won't happen)

if you want X now, just join the select developer program like many of us and you'd have gotten it today.
