Hey,

I'm in Germany and it's sort of cold right now, it should be around 1 to 5 degrees celcius tomorrow morning - can I go running outside, though, is this unhealthy?

Greetings,
Pete

Nope. Just keep all skin covered up and don't stop moving.

Actually, I'd say 1°C is warm enough you could overheat if you cover everything. I know people who will run in (long) shorts in that kind of weather.

Of course, running in general is bad for you. Our legs aren't designed for high-speed, repetitive impact on a hard surface.

I was gonna smart-arse about ruining your knees and ankles regardless of weather, but I opted for curtness in the interest of the original poster instead.

For the question he thought he was asking, "No" is the correct answer.

No, not at all. I mainly stop running when it's too icy for me to run comfortably (because I never get into the groove). If you want to do yourself some good, run in the forest or in (non-paved) parks as much as possible, that'll reduce the stress on your knees.

Sorry, somehow I thought I saw 1-5F. 1-5C is hardly anything, in those temps I ran in shorts and a sweatshirt. As people have mentioned, running isn't the best thing, however. After I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis I had to change my workout habits to reduce impact stress on my joints, the swelling and pain after a typical 4-5 mile jog was intense, so I switched to biking and swimming.

The better question is whether it is safe to run in 1-5F (as it is in Chicago) with much colder wind chills. I think I will be doing indoor activities until Chiberia warms up into the more comfortable 10+F.

1-5C is close to shorts weather for me.... this winter has sucked =(

I am of the opinion that it is unhealthy to go running in any weather, but if you insist then no, it's not unhealthy when it's that cold, just make sure you're wearing the right clothing.
Or, just get a cab..

Btw, is it unhealthy to go running immediately after breakfast?

See, in general, I didn't go running in a few years now. Would be good, though. I now live next to a cool park, too. I usually like to get up around 6, and I wonder if I could go running immediately afterwards. What do you think, aside of the weather question? Good idea? How about running during the day, in the afternoon, in the evening etc.? Good or bad? What do you like, why?

For P: "If I could run as fast as the Mac Pro, Siri wouldn't complain so often about the rumors she heard from the fitness app."

I would not recommend running after having a meal, your blood concentrates in your stomach to help digest the food -- instead of your legs. If you can go running in the morning, I envy you, I can't. It doesn't bring me any joy. I prefer to use running as a way to wind down after work.

You are more likely to get run over and/or mugged running at night.
