I'm considering purchasing a 10gig ipod windows because I can get a decent discount on it.

I only want to purchase it if I can make it work with my Mac's, will it automatically work on a Mac or is there some software that must be downloaded first, or is this even doable?

Has anyone on this forum actually used a windows based ipod with a Mac?

I reformatted a windows ipod to work on my mac. just download the ipod software updater from apple onto your mac, plug in the ipod, run the updater, and it will reformat the drive to hfs+ . if you want to make it a windows ipod again just reformat it using the windows version of Apple's updater software- changes it to fat32. you can go back and forth w/o a problem.

Strange..... As per Apple's Knowledge Base you can format Win iPod to work for Mac but not vice versa.

Robby is correct. I think Apple just posts that so they don't have people calling them looking for support in switching the iPod to work with Windows (heck, would you want to support windows? )

But a friend has switched his Mac-only iPod for use with his Windows machine without a problem....
