Many here sound happy with the Apple 20" LCD. Did anyone get an Apple refurb? I'm curious as to whether their refurbs tend to have no dead/stuck or clustered pixel issues, such as in a centrally-visible area. (As could be reason for returns.)

I just bought one; I'll report back if anything's noteworthy.

[If you buy a 20" Cinema Display at an Apple retail store they will hook it up for you so you can check the display yourself.

By the way in case anyone's interested J&R has factory refurbs of the Sony 23" SDM-p232 display for $1499.

It's a beautiful display.

Wow, that's quite a deal on the Sony 23"...
I went for the refurb Apple 20" for 1099. delivered, from MacConnection. Looks perfect, and I do appreciate it's creature comforts, like the system on/off/sleep from the monitor, via touchless photo sensor, even.

Had I first seen your post about the Sony though, I might have been tempted to stretch the credit card even further...
