No one better than applemaniacs to solve this question....
January 2004 will be macintosh 20th anniversary.....
What apple will do to make this memorable??
I just hope, whatever they do, doesn't cost $ 10000 :-)

Anyone wanna guess?

It's anybody's guess, you don't really expect anyone to know do you? Can't you wait until January 7th?
Let's stop with the speculation. Nobody has predicted Apple's future correctly yet. Most people predicted a 15.4" Powerbook but it ended up being the same 15.2" size as before.

Hee Hee, nobody's mad at cha. Can't blame ya for being curious. To tell the truth, I can hardly wait either. Apple will release something cool to celebrate the past 20years. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Have a good holiday.

Made out of aluminum. It'll 64 bit have excellent cooling with 8 fans. But the first few batches will suffer from white spot problems.

Yes, and the new aluminum T-shirt may not run Virtual PC until Microsoft updates it and hopefully the T-shirt won't ship with dead pixels. LOL.

PB and iMac are not a special anniversary product. It is part of a normal product evolution. Think something more innovative, more spectacular ! Or it could just be ... nothing

I heard something about reshowing the "1984" commercial (prolly not news to most) during the Superbowl - but I was thinking - would they run the text at the end as the same, or do sort of a retrospective, OR, announce a new product - but you'd think it would have to be something really revolutionary.

I predict the first quad-G5 PowerBook, except it'll be half an inch thick, weigh 1 pound, and have a 30" widescreen.

It'll also have nine hours of battery life.

upon reading all of these replies, I still wish for a G5ivver PB, hopefully SOONER than LATER.

I really hope that getting a G5 in a PB is the main focus of research at Apple.

This is where they either stand to make or lose the most in terms of profit...

Apple as a company really needs to stay ahead of the pack, and getting a 64 bit processor mobile is what is required....

I know other products in the line will be rerequiring updates..such as the eMac and iMac....although the new rumor of a new mag-alloy iMac is intriguing...

even the iPod line has to be carefully reexamined with all the new players sprouting up, that tremendously undercut the current iPods in regards to price...

these new products (from Dell, the other from Samsung/Napster, I think) are not as nice as iPods but the fact that they are available will inevitably hurt iPod sales, how much so is yet to be determined...

2004 looks like a challenging year for our beloved Apple..

2002 was good year, 2003 was an even better year (Panther, G5, Al PB), and hopefully 2004 will be the best yet for Apple....

again a mobile G5 is what most are waiting for....(including myself...)

Product guidelines that Apple should think of:

1-A powerful computer with a reasonable price so that anybody will want it.(under 1000$ US)

2-Something to make computers evolve in to a new direction like the macintosh.

Personnaly, I like the G5 Cube but it needs a screen with it like the iMac.

I would definitely buy a 1.8mhz or greater "Cube" for that price IF it was fully upgradable. By that I mean that you can easily swap out the hard drive, video card and optical drive and replace with any standard parts, just like on a Tower. My main Windows machine is a ShuttleXPC. It has exactly the dimensions of Apple's Cube but will take any stock parts. Aluminum case, runs cooler than Apple's Cube and is fairly quiet. It would be great if Apple could duplicate this design.

Apple could sell all powermacs, iMacs, powerbooks, and iBooks with special "20th Anniversay" badging. Make every model collectible.

I'll tell you what they won't do: have a sale or price cuts on anything but iPods and accessories!

A gold plated G5 would be cool!

There will not be another 20th anniversary Mac and certainly NOTHING that rhymes with "-ube".

Just picked up a 20th Ann Mac on eBay and it is an awesome machine. It can be upgraded to ethernet, USB, 128 megs of Ram, and G3.....to serve as a great OS 9 machine and maybe (I am trying) a decent OS X machine.

The sound and design are great. A superb audio system if someone wants a stereo but not a bunch of components and crap stacked up. And it has a TV and FM tuner built in.

I am loving this thing!

I forgot how responsive and usefull OS 9 was.

Back on topic....

I think Apple should do something huge for the true 20th Anniversary of the Mac. Maybe another breakthrough in computing, like a compact, affordable, all-in-one design similar to the iMac in specs but with an iPod dock built-in and a removable tablet screen with airport. And of course a totally new exterior design with interesting materials and features.

And some ADVERTISING that shows WHY and HOW the Mac is better, not just people dancing around.

You guys are all WAYYYYYY off the target! The NEW APPLE TABLET will be the talk of the town in 2004. Not like Newton (Who was not the original scientist to grasp the idea of gravity). Remember, Steve threw that thing against the wall and cursed it out? Think Bigodious Tablet, take with, strap on the back of your seats head rest, watch a dvd, draw in photoshop with a pencil as a mouse, or ichat video your cat Tony on the airplane, oh yes, oh sweet yesness...!!!

I don't think so. The tablet market is so small that I don't think that Apple's "small share of small" would be worthwhile.

That would need a massive OS upgrade because handwriting recognition isn't even close yet. Ink isn't very good at the moment with very basic features.

Ooh la la... I could use a small iPod. Well I could USE a 20 or 30 gig iPod... but I would really like to only spend about 2 or 3 gigs worth on an iPod. (Less than $100).

Also, the 20th anniversary Mac was the 20th anniversary of Apple itself, not the Macintosh.
