I've thought about him a lot since this story broke late last week. His final words were pretty heartbreaking.

Though I am impressed a second person started a thread about a bird I was oblivious to.

Two memorial threads for a bird? Meanwhile, 700 Iraqis are annihilated by a suicide bomb.

I'll never understand.

We could understand the bird when it talked.

That's a Norweigen Blue. Notice it's bright plumage.

On a happier note, we rescued this fella yesterday from an animal shelter.
We had to wait a week to get him.
He speaks Spanish.

All men are created equal, but what they do after that point puts them on a sliding scale.

Sad. African Grey's are amazing birds.

My dad had an African Grey when he was a teenager living in Africa. The bird is still alive today, approximately 40 years old, except now it lives in London. I visited the bird 5 years ago, and it knew tricks that my dad taught it 35 years back. It even recognized the family.

I doubt bird heaven would have a cage. I think they would be free to go anywhere they want.

My thought as well, pretty impressive given the exercise they were teaching to Alex.

Update: I can't find a link online, but here's a new entry in Wikipedia:
On October 4, 2007 The Alex Foundation posted the Pathology results: "Alex died quickly. He had a sudden, unexpected catastrophic event associated with arterosclerosis ("hardening of the arteries"). It was either a fatal arrhythmia, heart attack or stroke, which caused him to die suddenly with no suffering. There was no way to predict his demise. All of his tests, including his cholesterol level and asper levels, came back normal earlier that week. His death could not be connected to his current diet or his age; our veterinarian said that she has seen similar events in young (<10 year old) birds on healthy diets. Most likely, genetics or the same kind of low-level (impossible to detect in birds as yet) inflammatory disease that is related to heart disease in humans was responsible."
No more french fries for my birds.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

I wonder if the researchers have any way of looking at Alex's family history, you know, like they say in the commercials?
