so i have both a pc and a powerbook. when i got my powerbook transfered some files off of my external (well a regular hdd inside an external enclosure), and formatted it to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. I used it for a couple of weeks with some video files on it. Then I decided to put it back into my PC because I needed more storage, so I formatted it back to NTSC. Upon hooking it back up to my powerbook, i tried to format it to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format again but it failed multiple times. disk utility allowed me to do it in the MS-DOS file system however (which i assume is FAT32). does anyone know why it wont let me format it into the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format? it is really frustrating right now

if this is in the wrong area you can move it.

Mac OS X can read, but not write to NTFS. While I don't think there should be a problem with what you were doing, I would try to format the Hdd to FAT32 in Windows, then connect it to the powerbook and format to mac os extended journaled. Perhaps this might work?

Good luck

gah! stupid hard drive. windows wont even let me format it to FAT32, so it was left unformatted. then after plugging it into the powerbook it STILL wont even format to HFS, though it will still format to FAT32. maybe i should just get a new one....
