Finish putting one of these up (guess who just discovered that there's nothing but stone and housebricks 2" under his lawn?).

Big company do on Friday - 500 people. Open bar until 2am, heavy heavy hangover. Flight back was difficult. I've spent the day in bed.

I'm getting old.

Speaking of which, I did quite a bit of that today. Vacuumed too. I'll get to the hard floor tomorrow. Maybe.

We're heading to the Houston area to visit with my wife's family over the 4th. So I'm packing and preparing today.

Jens, I truly hate you. It's been around 40ºC here for a couple of weeks. Beach? Not a chance I'd be out in the sun any more than absolutely necessary around here.

This is the first year in 5 that I'm not slaving away for the evil retail empire for the 4th. Having today (Fri) off as a paid holiday is freaky (I swear I'm not complaining though! )
What, me worry?

No. Wouldn't fleas hanging around on the lawn die of hypothermia here in Blighty?

As long as the rain stays away, today should be a beautiful day - high of 72. I spent a good 5 hours working on motorcycles last night, I'll do some more this morning, then heading to the grandparents-in-law's lakehouse for food, jet-skiing, and fireworks.

Yes. He mentioned that kids in foreign private school kids typically know much more about American history than American kids.

Oh you don't know how wrong you are.

In Norway we get taught WORLD history, and there are specific focus on British and American history.

I know. Crazy concept huh? Learning about things outside your borders.

It's not that there isn't some "World History" in schools here. It's that there's little emphasis on retaining anything that isn't on the bleedin' standardized tests that decide whether or not a person passes or fails a grade or even all of high school. We're not teaching kids much more than "how to pass this stupid test we saddle you with." It's a darn shame too.

In college I had a World History class that was FUN. That was because the instructor presented history as a story. Stories are always more fun than dull dates and facts, and having a story to tie those dates and facts to made it easier to retain all of it. I'm afraid that history in American schools is now way too "serious" an thus not taught properly, a loss to everyone.

I will spend several hours stuck in traffic jams getting to the coast for the 4 day weekend. Others blocking my route will be starting their summer holidays. Once at the coast I will drink lots of beer and perform bombing runs into the in-laws swimming pool.

Marriage counseling tomorrow (we know we're going to fail so we're preparing for it already), bridal shower Sunday (who TF invites guys to a bridal shower, oh, that's right, my mom). But I'll get some quality wrenching time on the motorcycles tonight. Also an oil change for the car.

I visited both in one trip a few years ago, and to me, Cozumel seemed like Cancun's abused younger sibling. My family was trying to catch a cruise ship that we missed because of weather, and flew into Cozumel. The cruise lines have their own little neighborhood where you can disembark and shop, but as soon as you leave that area it seems a bit more like a third world country. The beaches around our hotel were mostly rocky - nowhere to lay out or play. We did some snorkeling and ate out at a local restaurant. It was okay, but nothing spectacular, and paled in comparison to Cancun in most respects. In Cancun, the beaches where white, the water was bluuuuuue, and there was a lot more going on. There's definitely more money in Cancun, although the two are a short ferry ride apart. If you like the idea of something cheaper and less tourist-y, and can appreciate more local or small-town places, then Cozumel would be the way to go, in my experience. If you want the luxurious tropical vacation feel, the Cancun all the way.

I did like that feeling in Cozumel. There were enough beaches that weren't rocky for plenty of sunbathing, the water was great for snorkeling and diving (my first dive lesson was there), and not having tons of tourist-oriented, noisy places around was a good thing too. I think it was Señor Frog's place near the cruise ship pier that was the loudest, with their "party boat" stuff. Otherwise it was pretty calm and enjoyable.

I'm off to a wedding in the Finger Lakes, which is all well and good except for it means I miss the Empire State Brewfest tonight, an event I look forward to every year. What's the point of having a beer festival a block from your house if you are going to be out of town? Sigh. At least there there a couple of other festivals (an art festival and a blues festival) in the area for Saturday and Sunday, but it's just not the same.

Friday evening will continue with drinking several litres of beer, which started at midday.
Saturday will involve gardening and disposing of gardening waste.
Sunday activities to be determined.

Have a nice weekend.

It's gonna be a rainy weekend, so I'll probably do some painting inside, assembling some glass doors to my book shelves and kill a few beers watching movies.

Friday - work, then probably a bar

Saturday - work during the day, then probably bars in SF

Sunday - school work, museam, Harry Potter in real IMAX, Ethopian food, probably bars

Add some random acts of "quality" time with the woman, and that about sums up my weekend.

Oh, on my way to pick up a new MBP, so I'll be messing with that as well.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.
