They'e both sata, so I figure they'd work.

I need to recover some files off of a dead pb drive. Hoping I can use the G5 here at work..

I've never actually, held a SATA laptop drive in my hands, but from the looks of the laptop SATA user manual for Seagate drives, it looks like the connectors should fit desktop SATA cables no problem (I thought the connectors would have been smaller on a laptop drive, but they appear to be standard size).

But if the drive is really dead, it won't matter what kind of machine you put it in.

even if it doesnt fit, you can get adapters very easily and cheap.

Yeah, I have a sata>usb adapter in the mail. But if I can get what I need done without having to open it, I think I'd be better off.

This is the last resort to resurrect the dead drive. I have a feeling it's not going to work, but you never know.

All PowerBooks use parallel ata and not serial ATA. So you would need an adapter either way, several in fact.

(i) 2.5" parallel ATA -> 3.5" parallel ATA adapter
(ii) 3.5" parallel ATA -> serial ATA adapter

So it will be a lot easier if you'd use an external 2.5" hd enclosure.

Is there no such thing as a 2.5" parallel ATA -> usb? I guess that'd be the same as an enclosure...

It is the electronics in the enclosure.
