I know there is a command line version of rar for osx, is this really necessary? Is there another program that decompresses files made in winrar that is more user friendly? Thanks for your help in advance.

The Unarchiver is also a possibility.

I second TETENAL suggestion, UnRarX works great.

Thanks unrar works like a charm. I'm a windows user who has yet to install boot camp cause I like OSX so much and it seems that every application I want/need is available for OSX, thanks in part to your suggestion of course.

Thank you.

Use UnRARX. Stuffit isn't as reliable.

The Unarchiver does RAR and dozens of other formats. It's free/donation and well worth having around.

I've had problems with UnrarX expanding password protected archives in the past. The command line unrar has always worked beautifully.

unrar e <archive name>

Really pretty simple.

I would go with unarchiver. I use it and it's just like the default osx unzipping thing but for more formats. I like it a whole bunch more than UnRarX which I used for awhile.

UnArchiver is great - it's a replacement for StuffIt Expander, as well, which makes it indispensible in my book.

Get it. The Unarchiver
