The burger KING is numero uno.
How would you like to wake up to him in your bed?

Waking up with *ANY* mascot in my bed is a pretty creepy idea.

It isn't creepy if the mascot is named Saint Pauli Girl.

I also find it amusing that after having lived in Hamburg for fifteen years, I have *never* seen "St. Pauli" beer here.
IIRC, it's brewed by Beck's in Bremen exclusively for export...

Not only does she have a face of silicone, she has a tumour bulging out of her right breast, making her lopsided. Oh and she glows. I guess it's from handling all that glowing beer.

That's quite disturbing, Eug. I was thinking "Photoshop" until I looked at where the picture came from. Now I am very uncomfortable at the thought that this "mascot" is actually for sale...

You are correct sir. The St. Pauli brand was started by an American to import "German" beer to the States.
BTW, isn't a "St Pauli Girl" a hooker?

You could say so.
St. Pauli is the adult entertainment district in Hamburg.

My vote goes to the BK mascot. There is just something wrong and mischievous about him.

I remember hearing a report a few months ago that clowns are now firmly considered creepy and scary.
It's hard to imagine a time when they were relevant at this point. They've been the butt of jokes for the past 20 years, it seems.

It depends on the clown. Many clown personalities include some unsavory aspects (Emmett Kelly and Emmett Kelly Jr., for example, with their "bum/tramp" personas), but those aspects are intended to draw sympathy or humor, or even derision. OTHER clowns are just freaky because the "clown" doesn't think about the implications of his/her makeup and costume decisions. I've known a few clowns through the years, and they have all expressed disgust at people who just put on clown-like makeup, wear outrageous costumes and call themselves "clowns," because these people are messing with what clowning is all about.
On the other hand, let's compare Bozo and the clown in "It." Very similar appearances, right? Yet the manner in which the performer portrayed the character is radically different. This highlights another issue with clowns: they are actors and have to be convincing as entertainment, or they get creepy. Scaring a 3 year old is not a difficult thing-all it takes is an odd appearance (or a beard, interestingly enough). Scaring a 10 year old takes some really BAD behavior. And I've seen it happen, even at a professional event like Ringling Brothers'.

I'm telling you gh, as a general consensus clowns are now considered more creepy and scary than entertaining or funny. When was the last time you saw a clown in RL? Circus doesn't count either (if there's people left who go to those, either).

Chief Zee, a black man dressed up in his finest chicken feathers in a lame attempt to look like an Indian at Washington Redskins' games.
His toy flag goes nicely with his toy tomahawk.
Creepy, disturbing and just plain offensive.
Many Native Americans find the word redskin as offensive as African Americans feel about the word n*gger.

About a month ago, I saw two clowns. They're both in the business of visiting sick kids in hospitals, so they go to some length to NOT be creepy. They're both female, which may make a difference... One of them is one of my professors, too. That could also make a difference, at least in her approach.

You know gh, there's something amusing about the fact that before I typed the question, I knew you of all people would somehow have an answer for me. Obviously, I'm too stubborn to think this isn't an exception to the rule, but kudos, good example.

I've always wanted to see Don King with red Bozo hair. I think that would be as creepy as it can get.

Actually, I'm pretty certain that my example IS an exception. The clowns I've met have all been pretty mild and benign-just bright clothes and some mime-ish sort of makeup designs. None of the really extreme stuff like Bozo, nor the pathetic type (pathetic in its real sense of "evoking pathos") like the Kellys. I'll bet that the kids that hate clowns are generalizing them into those annoying and extreme styles.
