They split before the cops arrived.
Even though calling 911 for a car in a tow zone seems extreme, that’s how the system around here works.

There’s a hospital near our daughter’s home that displays the names of recent newborns, and my wife and I get a chuckle out of trying to figure out how to pronounce some of the more...unique...names. For instance, one of my daughter’s coworkers just had a baby, and they named it La-A.
Any guesses how one pronounces La-A?
I swear to god.

Could the hospital be abbreviating, especially for uncommon or long names? That would be a simple privacy step too.

My imessage/text notification number on my ipad is stuck on 2, even though all messages are read, including on other devices. I've rebooted and quit the apps and still 2.

Nope. That is exactly how my daughter's coworker spells her new child's name...La-A.

My 2018 MBA has sticky 'e' key that either does not register when pressed or results in two e's.
I found a hard press, multiple times, in quick succession, fixes the issues. Apparently, this dislodged whatever was under there.

Beats the heck out of
Abcde...(AB sid ee). And yes I've encountered that in a putative adult. Her mother was my patient for some sort of orthopedic issue, and did not otherwise seem psychotic.
And then there's "Ess pin", spelled (I kid you not) Espn.

Doesn’t Apple have some kind of repair program now for laptop keyboards?

Minor irritant: spending way too much time failing to come up with a good hyphen/em-dash/subtraction joke.

There was a thing online a while back with people making fun of a woman who had named her daughter KVIIIlin - Kaitlin, with VIII being eight in roman numerals. I really thought that this was some sort of joke, but I guess there really are people who name their kids like that.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

These are the same people who will be offended when their child's teacher (or anyone else!) pronounces or spells it wrong.

Seems cruel to me. Just forces them to do a legal name change once they're adults. Which I'm told is a hassle. Oh, and put up with all the angst in school until then.
edit - could it be caused by illiterate parents? Maybe the answer is simpler than it appears.

Not as horrific as these examples, but I have a relative with the last name of “Thomas”.
His parents named him “Thomas”.

The only alternate names for him I’m familiar with are “Mot”, and “Mot Mot”.
To be sorta fair, it’s possible his original last name may not have been Thomas, but Thomas[Eastern European suffix]. The suffix got dropped somewhere along the line. I know his older sister was given the full last name, but (at least casually) dropped the suffix until she got married and changed it entirely.

And this guy is, unbelievably a leading figure in our governing party. He firmly believes he knows what's best for the entire country, and his sense of the common people is definitely as reflected in his choice of names for his children
Apologies for the tabloid link.

Hate signing out of Gmail, but still have my username shown. I need to take another two to three clicks to actually remove my username.
Apparently a lot of people don't realize this...just look at any airport kiosk and find out.

My impression is there's a lot of Canadian quarters circulating in the US. Ever since the 50-state quarters program, there are too many patterns to recognize. So if it's about the right size, everyone just accepts quarters today.

Phun Phact: Necco wafers are close enough to the size of a quarter they used to work on automatic toll lanes.

I’ve never actually tried one.
I guess I’ve always assumed they taste like quarters.

I occasionally discover Canadian change even down here in Texas. Of course, since I grew up near Detroit, I already know what I'm looking at, so it's pretty easy to spot them.
As for the quarters specifically, most people look at a "roughly the right size and silvery" coin and stop worrying about whether it's US, Canadian, or other. Cayman Islands coins are (mostly) the same size as US coins, Panamanian coins are the same size, and so on.
It's kind of interesting what sort of not-from-here coins wind up in change...I wound up with a Korean 50 Won coin once. It's about the size of a nickel, but worth only about 4¢.

I work in a foreign country where apparently elevator door sensors where a person walks in to prevent the doors from automatically closing have not been invented yet. Kind of weird. The door closes after a set period of time, so you need to hold the "open" button if many people decide to take the elevator at one time.
This is all good, but people here are a bit paranoid or just stupid, because they will hold the elevator "open" button when they are inside the elevator and the door opens for them to go out. That would be fine, but if a single person or 1-2 persons want to leave, they still hold the open button. There is no need to hold the button open for only 1-2 people!! Only if you walk super slowly would that be needed, but 4-5 people at a normal pace can safely leave without the door closing. I see this happening every single day in the office building that I work at, so you would expect people to know this by know. It is an extra wasteful step.

Is there at least a safety switch on the doors? ie - will the elevator start moving if something is propping either door open?
That could result in lost limbs. If I wasn't sure, I'd probably use the "open" button religiously. You could test it with a rolled-up magazine.

Yes. It has that. So the elevator won’t start moving up or down, the doors will just close. But once the doors sense a pressure, then it will open.

Now I’m curious. What made it bad?
Lime is one of my favorite flavors.
And I wouldn’t call fruit Tums horrible. I wouldn’t call them good, either, but they’re better than uncut chalk.
