Are there any (book) writers out there? If so, what do you use for your manuscripts? OS 9 or OSX? Word or Word Perfect?
Appleworks? Or other? And are there certain fonts that are more acceptable than others?
Any advice here would be appreciated.

I remember that on a Apple promo video (PB 17 maybe) shows a man that was maybe scriptwriter and it seemed to use a special app to do his work. Sorry abot can not give you further details.

You can try Nisus writer 4.1.6 for free, for classic there is also Nisus Compact...
Here's the link for both
Some say it takes a little getting used to, but if you stick with it you'll really like it.
So, what's the book gonna be about??

Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...
