Hi All,
Just to share the surprise of the day with you, and ask for a hint or so.
The story is very simple: I've got MacBook Pro 2,2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2Gb of RAM. My colleague has something older with a faster proc (2.3GHz) and a slower RAM bus. So, they should not be very different in performance, right? However, when we run this simple ruby script:
Code:
include Math
time = Time.now
10000000.times {|i| a = sin(i)}
puts Time.now - time
... my colleague's laptop does it within 4.4 seconds, while mine it takes 9.5!
Could please someone run this script to tell me what HIS result is? (For those new to Ruby, I can assure you I won't get your credit card number stolen by this script).
Any ideas what could cause such a performance difference?
Many thanks!
