One of the nearby networks I saw was named "bukakke". I didn't know what that was, yet I knew it was something I shouldn't be looking up... However, I just had to look up the word. Luckily I wasn't at work.

#7 and #10 are good too, as is (especially) #25.

I found them a little funny, but I think "hilarious" to be a bit overkill.

Not as funny as some of those, but in my neighborhood there is a network called "Texas" and another called "GeorgiaIsBetter." If it wasn't -3˚ right now I'd go down the sidewalk and nab a screenshot.

Once I was evil and made mine irritatingly similar to the name used by a neighboring coffee shop.

I think the ones called "linksys" with the default admin password are the hysterical ones personally....

Well yeah, but they're "sad funny" instead of "clever funny." What's funny is the look on people's faces when you explain that they had crappy WiFi because they were actually connected to their neighbor's "linksys" all the while, even when you show them the list of 5 different "linksys" networks in their immediate area.

Slightly better, but not much are the wonderful 2wire units, that come with non-identical default network names. But if it says "2wirexxxx" then you can still bet it has a default admin password... At least you can tell the difference between these.

I hope your use of “wonderful” was sarcastic there… I had one of those 2wire units for a while, and it was the biggest POS I’ve ever used. Flaked out all the time, and didn’t even support WPA2.

My personal favorite to see is the "Free Public Wifi" that just connects you to an ad-hoc node.

Your sarcasm-meter must not be working well today - I put a bunch of it in that part of the post. While I don't think they're all POS, they're not fantastic and fabulous by any means.

One of the biggest Internet providers here, Alice, started supplying customers with castrated Wifi bridges just as they were going big.

This thing was dumbed down to bridge-only (no router capability), so you had to connect via PPPoE, and as the config login was off, there was also no way to change the SSID, which was the same for all boxes.

Much fun invariably ensued in denser-populated neighborhoods.
