Which card is best? A friend of mine has just got her G4 DA with a NVidia GeForce2 MX. She is now thinking of swapping that card with an ATI Radeon 8500 sitting in a Sawtooth. Both are running X 10.3.8
Is this a good idea? I guess the ATI is performing better or am I wrong? Is it just to install the NVidia or does she need to install a driver too?

The 8500 will kick the 2MX's butt from here to Sunday.

I swapped the stock GeForce2 with an ATI 8500 a year ago, and the video performance was far superior with the 8500.

for a good comparison.
The Radeon 8500 is VERY comparable to a Radeon 9000. (Basically same card)
Note how the 9000 is able to improve with a faster processor, the GF2 drags the upgrade down with it.

If you going to get a new card, why settle for an 8500 or 9000 especially with Tiger coming out soon. Go for the 9800...very reasonably priced and kick's the 9000's butt.
I have the 9000 which is a very good card but do see it's limitations when I push it.

I love my 9800, but it's also expensive, and it does not sound like the OP's friend wishes to spend money on an upgrade. . .
