I don't care what anyone says; I think serial commas should always be used. When you have a list of more than 2 items, list items are separated by commas. An "and" after a comma means the next item is the last. When a list item contains a comma, the serial commas are replaced by semicolons. It's never unclear what is being listed.

I'm amazed that no one mentioned Eats, Shoots & Leaves until now.
