..ok no big news- I know. I've heard before that OS X is very font sensitive.

I recently switched all the files from my Win2K machine to my Mac, including some fonts I downloaded for WIndows. The fonts all work, but my machine has had 2 kernel panics since I installed them a week ago. A couple questions:

Is there any way to determine which fonts are bad without dropping $70 for "Font Doctor", or other such utility?

When the system crashes due to corrupted fonts, does it damage other parts of the file system?

If so, will a font-repairing utility bring back the system to it's prior level of stabilty, or is a re-install of the OS necessary for that?

I am aware of the process of booting from the OS X disk & repairing permissions/checking disk for errors, and also the "fsck -y" single-user mode command. These haven't helped, for the second kernel panic happened after I took these steps.

thanks a million for any help that you can provide!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when I tried the demos for Font Doctor and at least one other font utility, the corrupt fonts on my system actually crashed both programs without revealing which fonts they were... I ended up just disabling a large chunk of fonts at a time until I found out what was going on. OS9 Extension Conflict sort of deal.

Ditto.

It'd be nice if (one day) Font Book could check for corrupt fonts as well.
