I heard that the simline PStwo can handle 480p and progressive scan DVD movie playback.

They also have the networking built in when the large PS2 it was a big hump on the back.

The kids own the ones I selected in the poll. The PS3 doesn't look to be such a hot seller here on the MacNN forums. I'm only the 5th person to admit to having one. I must say, the issue with the PS3 not being able to play all the older PS2 games made me almost pass on it for now, but they promise a firmware fix (downloadable) before too long, and it is still a nice piece of kit. The game "Resistance: The Fall Of Man" is pretty hot stuff. My son and I play as a team in cooperative mode and we have a real hoot. Both the Wii and PS3 make connecting to your wireless network so simple. Choose "Wireless" when setting up, have it scan for networks, and BAM! You're connected. I've got AirPort Extreme Base Stations as access points and both consoles found them in seconds. My first thought when opening the PS3 and seeing the CAT-5 network cable was, "Oh, sh!t, I need a friggin' wireless adapter......?!" but no, it's built in just like the Wii's wireless gear. Sweet.

The PS3 is the only console on that list that I haven't owned. Unless it delivers something special besides Blu-Ray DVD playback...something that can't be found on a cheaper platform...I won't bother with it. If the Wii's first half-year brings good third-party games that aren't regular games with gimmicky controls, then I'll buy a second WIi (I sold the first for a profit on eBay). I'm scared that games will be multi-console with Wii controls tacked on, rather than original games for the system. Nintendo's first-party games will be great, no doubt...but I wonder if that will be enough for me.
If the 360 doesn't start putting out something more than a bunch of good shooters, I'm probably going to get bored with it, quite honestly. I've been playing on my week-old HDTV, and while the graphics are absolutely stunning, I feel like I'm playing the same genre of game over and over again. I'm a sports gamer, so it's disappointing that EA Sports has gotten off to a slow start on the 360. It doesn't help that NBA2K7 is still practically the same game that it was on the PS2 and XBox. I need some better sports games, and I need some games that aren't shooters.
IGN's 11 top-rated 360 games...
1. Gears of War
2. Rainbow Six: Vegas
3. ES IV: Oblivion
4. GRAW
5. F.E.A.R.
6. Viva Pinata
7. Call of Duty 3
8. Splinter Cell: Double Agent
9. Prey
10. Dead or Alive 4
11. Call of Duty 2
6 are FPS
2 are third-person perspective combat games
I have no interest in Viva Pinata or DoA4, Oblivion is a great game, but not everyone's cup of tea.
I love Call of Duty 2 and 3, but first-person shooters don't keep me coming back for more after I'm done. I just sold Gears of War yesterday because I got tired of it. I'm not a big fan of profanity, so hearing soldiers dropping S and F bombs in my games isn't something I want to hear all day. I do like first-person shooters, don't get me wrong. I just sometimes want something else. I want Madden to be everything it should be, for instance. That's not a hardware problem, but an EA problem. I want the games to be pretty, but I want them to feel new and fully fleshed out. Madden for 360 doesn't feel like a second-generation game; it still feels incomplete and lacking, albeit not as badly as '06.
Maybe I'm just a disgruntled gamer who can't find and/or doesn't know what he's looking for.

Jawbone... just wondering... have you played Ico or Shadow of the colossus yet? Because those were definitely what I was looking for in a game, after I felt the way you did. Katamari Damacy is a great break from the norm also.

Played Ico. I loved the feeling the environment gave me more than the game itself. I heard SotC was a lot better, but I had already gotten rid of my PS2 before I heard about the game.

I was under the impression that the 360's lineup was going to be more diverse. So far I'm not seeing it.

It's not as diverse as the first one was, but I think it is more diverse than Wii. 360 has some good racing games.

...with a year's head start. We'll see. THIS is why Microsoft needs to win over Japanese developers. It's a distinctly American system at this point, focusing primarily on shooters.

There aren't any DS Lites or DS's to be found anywhere within an hour of here. And we have tons of Wal-Marts, Targets, Best Buys, Circuit Cities, GameStops, EB Games, and the like. They're still a hot, hot, HOT item.

No thanks on the DS Lite. A friend is searching for one, but I think he has someone hooking him up when a shipment comes in on Tuesday. He's been trying to track one down for several weeks.

I'd say "different" as opposed to "more diverse." As someone who doesn't really like FPS or racing games, I see very little diversity in the 360 lineup to date.

Got it with the system, cause i havent played any WWII game ever.
Havent spent much time with it since ive been obsessed with Zelda for the last month.
Initial impressions:
steep learning curve. the training is minimal and not enought to get used to the new control. the FPS takes a little getting used to, but since most of the game is about finding cover and then taking out ur targets, unlike quake where u run around and shoot it seems like it's the game rather than the control. once u get past the first hour, it feels fine. graphics are obviously no where nearly as good as XB360's, but they are 'alright'.
Many sites ive visited have mentioned that this is the FPS that showcases the Wii's potential in FPS, as opposed to Fa Cry(yuck!!) and Red Steel (ouch!)

Same one. The PS2 has been around for more than five years, has a large installed base and is less expensive. The XBox 360 also has a good time advantage and yet, as it stands now, the 360 is leading by one as far as next-gen consoles and the GameCube is still leading overall.

Not a surprise. There's likely to be a lot more anti-MS sentiment on these boards, let alone the aforementioned Nintendo love.

You can call it 480p if you want, but I call it pixelized sh%$. It looked horrible, not to mention that it isn't even true widescreen support. I had a frame around the entire picture (top, bottom, and both sides). . . . this was on both GT, and Shadow of Colossus (sp). Two games that supposedly supported 480p AND widescreen. I don't know what widescreen display sony was talking about, but it wasn't one that is 16:9. . .

Then you had something setup wrong. I've played gran turismo on a HD widescreen TV and it worked fine, and looked great.

The last gen big PS2 had that. Plus it had a quieter fan, built-in IR, and could play DVD-/+RW movies. Plus you could run HD advance on it. I traded in my PCMCIA PS2 for that, really nice.

Well, on my old PS2, it only had two settings. . . one was for standard or widescreen tvs, and the other was for component or standard av. . . . both were set correctly. My original xbox, and 360 never had this issue. . they always fit the entire screen. . . I'll see if I can find the pics to show you what I'm talking about. . .
edit:
Just google PS2 Underscan and you will find 1000's of results from people with the same problem. The PS2 games are actually underscanned to compensate for those tvs that overscan. So, when you hook it up to a TV that doesn't you get the black bars on the left and right side. . .

Underscanning is a known issue with the PS2s. You just have a TV that overscans so you can't tell what is going on.
