Simple question. Anyone got a simple answer?

Disk Burner/iTunes will only burn up to 480(?)MB of space onto a single 700MB CD. What's the deal?

I know that if I packet write a 650MB CDRW that I only have 511 MB actual space to write to. It must have something to do with the overhead used by the packet writing format. Because of I make direct copies, I can make duplicates of CDs with more than 511 MB of data onto the same CDRW discs.

I had the same problem until I removed ALL of the extensions that came with the CDRW drive. Now that I have allowed the USB Authoring Support extension to control the drive, I can format to the full 654 Megs.

DiscBurner never worked before. Will it now and is it also new? Didn't work on my Iomega ZipCD before. Should it now with new iTunes? If so, does it need to be hacked 1st or right outta the box (installer)?

Just to make sure I get 'em all, exactly what extensions besides Toast USB drivers does toast install?

I have been using iTunes have I have been surprised at how good it is at filling CD-R discs up to capacity.

I burned a music CD from MP3 files, total time on the disc 74 mins 30secs.

That is theoretically over the limit for a 74min (600MB) CD-R

If I insert 80min CD's with the finder open, it only gives me 570MB of space, yet if I open DiskBurner first, it asks me to insert a CD, and then recognises the fact that it has a 700MB capacity.

Strange!

Make sure all your toast extensions are off.

I get 79 minute capacity for Audio CD-Rs when inserting a blank 80 min/700mb disc, but for the data or mp3 options, I get 702 mb.

mrchin/as2/parky -

I assume you are all using "supported" CDRW drives (eg: no "hack needed)? I am using a Sony Spressa CRX100E 4/4/8 drive and cannot get past the 455MB data limit regardless of what extensions i have activated.

I'm using the exact same drive as SpeedRacer, and I'm getting the exact same results.

Number41 -

Do you have the CRX100E or the CRX100 E/X2? In looking again, it appears that i have an X2 model, could this possibly be making the difference...?
