After having been inspired by this attempt to pose this question, I have decided to ask it myself in a more thorough way.

This will be a nice way to see how the paradigm is shifting toward G5s, and how many crazy G4 holdouts like myself are still left to battle the new-technology horde.

I've left a "Single or Dual?" option next to machines that shipped in single and dual processor configurations. If you have one of those machines, please specify.

I myself have a Power Mac G4 'Digital Audio' which originally shipped as a single processor 733MHz machine. It now houses a significantly faster 1.47GHz G4 upgrade from GigaDesigns and is begging me to get it a Dual 1.6/1.73GHz 7447A G4 upgrade from GigaDesigns when they ship.

How about you?

Like my sig says... Digital Audio G4 with a Giga Designs single 1.33GHz/2MB. I was gonna get the 1.467GHz, but found a 1.33GHz for $275 so oh well.

Of course, a dual 800 g4 with graphite apples

It's just asking for a dual 1.6 (get that sucker to 1.9) and a new video card

I'm now waiting for a RevC G5, which will hopefully truly fix the issues that I've seen (or rather heard) in the Rev A G5's - namely high-pitched wines from the PSU which also get on the FireWire bus. This has not been 100% fixed and still exists on the Rev B models, but to a lesser extent. OK. Disabling nap may fix it, but those Rev A's run hot enough as it is . . .

These issues affect me as an audio 'pro', and don't affect the machines for other uses.

So that's why I'm still running a QuickSilver 1GHz DP, with 1.5GB RAM. A fine machine

I recently put a Sonnet 1.2GHz in a 466 Digital Audio. That was a cheap upgrade, and fan-less, and wow! Contemporary performance from a 4 year old Mac!

Rev.A Dual 2Ghz G5 with 2 250gb internal hd's, a 250gb external hd, 1.5 gb ram, a 6800 Ultra pushing a 30" display. On my want list is a bit more ram and a nice set of speakers (but I can't decide between Logitech's and Klipsches).

I upgraded from a 600MHz G3 iMac (slot loading CRT) to my PowerMac. A bit of an upgrade.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Original specs were:
G4 400 Mhz AGP
CDROM
ATI Rage video card
Adaptec SCSI card
100 MB Iomega Zip drive
17" Apple Studio monitor - dead

Upgraded specs are:
1 Ghz Powerlogix G4
1 GB SDRAM
nvidia Geforce2 (flashed pc card)
17" LCD

Maybe I'll upgrade to another video card? For some reason, this PowerMac doesn't like OS X 10.3 and I suspect it's b/c the video card wasn't originally for a mac.

no dual replies allowed but we still have a B&W heavily upgraded plugging along as kids/computer-illiterate husband computer. If G5 updates appear soon my MDD is going to be downgraded to their machine. I'm holding a wad of cash here waiting for a new G5.

Single G4 867 Quicksilver, see the sig! And what do you mean 'crazy G4 holdouts'? A G4 is hardly stone age tech! GORDYmac, which front panel USB ports do you have, and where from?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Rev B PowerMac G5 2.0 Ghz Dual with
Radeon 9800XT 256MB BTO
2.5 GB RAM
Pioneer 107 DVD-R (Flashed)
BT Keyboard & Mouse
Formac ProNitron 22.880 22" CRT

Running:

10.3.8
Production Suite HD
Photoshop CS

Zero problems or complaints re: Fans or anything else except recent issue with Dr.Bott ADC/VGA adapter which hangs machine on wake from sleep. Annoying because I wanted to use G5 DVI to Video adapter on other output from Radeon. So my only issue is that the 9800 came with one DVI and one ADC connector rather than two DVI connectors. Still happy as a clam though! Previous machines were 800Mhz G3 iBook and original RevB iMac with Sonnet Harmoni (500Mhz) Quite a jump eh?

rev a dual 1.8

my sister has a dual 1.25

my parents have a sawtooth 400

until last year my sister had a 6116 and parents either used the (then mine) sawtooth or a now-defunct 6200

thinking about getting my parents a mini... it'd make us all modern computer owners again, but it'd break us away from all owning powermacs...

My original specs match thosde of fuzz, but ha! MY studio monitor (with handy USB ports built in) is still alive and well. A year ago I upgraded the processor to 933 MZ, which helped enormously. Coulnd't upgrade the video card (though I bought a modest upgrade on ebay) because the monitor wouldn't work with it, unforunately. So I'm still using the original Rage card. Life goes on. I'd LOVE an LCD screen, but just don't want to spend the cash at the moment.

Hello,

I have a Rev A 2003 DP G5 2.0GHz, OEM Radeon 9800 Pro, 2GB Ram, M-Audio Revolution 7.1 PCI. Dreaming about a X800XT upgrade.

This setup has been totally rock solid and problem free except three programs having issues with the Revolution card in software over the years.

My previous Power Mac was a 2002 DP 1.0Ghz Quick Silver and a Blue & White G3 400. I also have a DP 450 Gigabit on loan from work.

Thanks

I've had a QuickSilver DP800 since April 2002.
I upped it to 1.25GB RAM, have three 120GB drives in it, and updated the superdrive from the stock 2X to a 4X. I also have a PC flashed Radeon 8500.

I need it to last another year or more before I buy a G5. I'm waiting for Jobs' magic 3GHz machines.

As seen in signature,
G4 dual 533 digital audio, OSX 10.3.8, 1.12GB RAM, 2x 40gb, LG DVD-RW, 17' Philips CRT on original GeForece2 MX and 15" NEC LCD on ATI 128 rage PCI card

my fourth mac after these beauties, love those portable notebooks
500 12"snow ibook,
867 12" powerbook
1,33 12" powerbook

this tower runs like a champ and always impresses me when it starts up every day, runs all day with a boatload of things going at the same time and never breaks a sweat. Will most likely change 2nd hd to 120gb and install USB2 PCI card and then start saving for upgrade to next tower.

Probably upgrade --> MDD 1.25 dual, imac g5 flat panel or G5 tower 1.6 or 1.8 solo.
Any comments on best option here????
Mini Intel Core Duo 1.66, 1.5ram, super, 17" CRT Cinema Display, Intuos 3 tablet
G4 PB 1ghz 15", 60gb, 256ram, super, Wifi

Although I have an iMac with the latest Mac OS X (as well as a Window XP laptop that I need for work), the computer I use most often is an old Power Mac. I think it's because I feel comfortable with Mac OS 9 and it has two displays (primary at 1152x870 and other at 1024x768). For your "office" apps and typical Internet uses, it is more than adequate. And it just keeps on working... (thanks Apple).

It's actually so old that it was not technically one of the choices! So I selected the closest one, which was "Power Macintosh PCI/G1-G2 (7500 - 9600)." Mine is "Nubus" and not "PCI."

Power Mac 8100 (AV/80) with a 300-MHz G3 (NewerTech) and many other enhancements.

My primary Mac is a Sawtooth G4/450 upgrade with an OWC Mercury Extreme 1.5GHz, 2GB memory, 160GB Seagate, Pioneer DVR-108, and the original ZIP drive. Still have the stock Rage-128 video card in it, but will change it out eventually.

Runs great! Dreamweaver MX 2004 is still a tad pokey on it, but everything else is just dandy :-)
