Shoulda made it multiple options. I've got 4 powermacs--

Cube,
Sawtooth,
Quicksilver dual 1.0
G5 dual2.0

What's interesting about the poll is just how many 3-5 year-old Macs are still humming along. My Sawtooth will be 6 in Feb. & my Quicksilver will be 4 in April or May.

Once the Quads are shipping in decent number I'm probably going to start a new poll. Stay tuned.

I voted for the beige G3 since this is Powermac I currently use but will own a G4 Sawtooth as soon as it arrives.

I have owned The following Macs:

Performa 6320(cd)?/120 Mhz/603e/64 MB/OS 8.1

PowerBook 3400c/144MB/6GB?(I think)/603e OS 9.1

G4-400 Mhz/Yikes/448MB/OS 9.2.2

PowerBook 3400c/144MB/6GB?(I think)/603e OS 9.1

Currently own Beige G3 tower 350 Mhz proccessor from B/W G3 overclocked at 375 Mhz 83 Mhz Bus speed (Tried higher overclocks but 375 Mhz is as far as I was able to go.) with OS 10.2.8 and 9.2.2 on partition/768MB. Runs Great! Still has a lot a life left.

I bought a Sawtooth G4-400/512MB/60GB/DVD/10.4.3/Ultra-SCSI card includes panther 10.3 disks on eBay but still not here yet. I'm upgrading memory to 1 Gig of memory as soon as it arrives.

Future: A new Mac of some sort Not sure which one yet but I'll stick with the Beige G3 and G4 sawtooth for now.

I have Rev. A Dual 2ghz G5 w/ 20" ACD and will be adding a Quad 2.5 w/ 2x23" ACD's after the new year.

The two G5's will be strickly used for Creative work and we have a Pb 12" to take care of all the adminstration / presentation stuff.

I have been working on an upgrade for a friend who has a Yikes and noticed your upgrade info. Wonder tips/tricks etc. for upgrade. Friend is a very beginner user who needs up-to-date capability i.e. streaming, music, VPN to employer.

Problems: 1) Time & distance for troubleshooting which I hope to handle via chat and remote access via VPN, and 2) Signal Hill, CA location -- Verizon refuses to update equipment so DSL via PPOe is only option which is not fast enough to support multi-tasking, streaming and other use to which this system will be put.

Any ideas as to how to goose Verizon or workaround with another fast service short of the T1, etc. route?

I am in intermediate user with some facility for following direction from advanced/super users.

Thanks.

I've got a dual 1 gig MDD. I've enjoyed it greatly though I feel like I might need to upgrade after a wave or 2 of the intel machines.

BTW: I feel like -- I am not understanding the Dual Core thing ... this new technology has reduced something, the CPU, from 2 items to 1, and has increased something else ... ? ... from 1 item to 2 -- which adds speed, allows for increased FSB speed which is all that matters in terms of the limits of capabilities of a machine ... and allows for even larger hard drives as well as accomodates the increased tera flops per second rates.

Is this change addressing the cooling problems and the limits of the G4 technology reached with IP6, increased hard drive size, FSB size and tera flop rates? Or do I need to go to my hardware books and study basic logic board/mother board architecture before I pursue this question?

In English ... simple non-Engineer Geek English, would you be so kind as to explain all this.

Thanks.

In the simplest of terms, there are 2 CPUs on one hardware silicon chip. So the number of CPUs is doubled.

A dual G5 is not necessarily a dual core G5. A dual G5 is a PowerMac with 2 CPUs but each is on a chip by itself.
