Congrats Detroit!

The Hawks are young, so that's a good thing, I expect great things over the next 3-4 years....

So am I ( surprise eh?) in spite of the Pens dispatching the Canes easily and the Wings potentially missing Datsyuk.
I am pissed that the NHL moved up the Finals since I'll be back on the 6th only.

Great game - lots of chances on both sides. Fantastic goaltending, but all three of the Wings goals were on very odd/lucky bounces. Fleury definitely needs to be a little more conscious about his side-to-side movement with those end boards - so it'll be interesting to see if he tries to overcompensate next game and it throws him off again.

I felt bad for him, though; all three of those goals were just "luck of the draw" types. On the other end Osgood once again came up big and held his own, and the Pens just didn't get any breaks - the bounces wouldn't go their way. It was even funny to see Crosby get denied on the diving blocker save by Osgood, the puck land on his back, and then Zetterberg get away with gloving the puck in the crease. The hockey gods were angry that day, my friends.

Just looked it up and the next game is tonight?! Crazy schedule. Awesome!

I had to miss the game tonight, due to a meeting, but I got to listen to the last ten minutes in the car on the way home! I'm thinking it's going to be very hard for the Penguins to win 4 out of 5.

Down to best of 3.

Jordan Staal, despite remaining terribly in the faceoff circle, finally made his real impact moment of the playoffs.

Have the Pens finally woken up and realized they can beat Detroit? Certainly looked like it in period 2. But will it require Fleury to be consistently amazing in order to pull it off?

Was Malkin a monster, or what?

Was the final goal totally ridiculous, or not?

Is Lidstrom a little more hurt than press attention would warrant?

How do we weigh home-ice advantage against the Penguins' new-found confidence?

Why am I writing like this?

Red Wings hockey 101. And the Pens do their part too. Watching this game kinda take the sting out of coming back from vacation.

Wings take the feathers off the Penguins, 5 - 0!!!

Datsyuk looked like he hadn't taken a day off! The best player in the NHL today!

Which is all the more amazing since he was clearly slowed by a injury. It shows his extraordinary hockey sense.

That was just a complete thrashing. Embarrassing effort by the Pens.

I agree, the most embarrassing part was how fast they lost their cool and went on a penalty fest. I dont remember the last time I saw that many Wings power plays.

I watched the game at the Hofbrauhaus (awesome place by the way- I want it to be my home) but that was an awesome game. I went out to the Southside after and it was just nuts. We on the Super Bowl on my birthday but this just felt a little bit sweeter, winning on Detroit's ice...

I'll take your words about being a great game and all. I want here to thank Continental for a long delay flight (into DTW no less!) that made me miss the whole game (and probably saved my sanity). Tough for the Wings to lose at that point. But they had 2 opportunities to finish the Pens and did not make it. It was not meant to be.
We'll se whether either teams can make a third consecutive trip the SCF next year! Now, what to do with my free time....

Awwwww that sucks man! I have a good friend on the west coast who works an office job but was stuck until almost 9pm (i.e. missing most of the game) because of some last-minute project deadlines. And he's a hockey nut harbouring the modest goal of becoming an NHL GM.

Moral: life sucks sometimes.

But really though, great game, and despite blowing it early the Wings followed their pattern of making a great last-half push. I'm sure you've seen the highlights, but Fleury's final save was just Con Smythe-worthy. Oh yeah, and if you haven't seen it, check out his patting/caressing the crossbar after a third-period ding by the Wings. A great catch by the cameras - the bar roared when we saw the replay.

Sharks can outchoke anyone. That's my concession for this year.
