Telstra is the first Australian telco to release its data plan for the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G.
From $20 for 1GB to $100 for 12 GB. All pre-paid, no contracts. Apart from the having to use in 30 days, the pricing isn't too bad.

That's insane. $1/GB is "not too bad."

You're probably right, but such is Telstra's regular data pricing, by comparison this isn't bad. So yes, we get screwed on data. On the plus side, Telstra is by far the fastest network, and, importantly in such a large country, its coverage is the best by a long, long way.
Vodafone and Optus should be soon to release their pricing. Optus actually has somewhat casually let their pre-paid pricing out, and it's very close to Telstra's (in price, not in performance and coverage).

Pff, I think it's a good deal compared what you pay for AT&T data roaming.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but that's USD (and not AUD), right?
Also, interesting to see no unlimited data plan a la AT&T...then again, I doubt Telstra has AT&T's network problems
