I just updated Google Search to try out Google Now, which I've used a little bit on my Nexus 7. It works fine, but unless I shut it off in the app, the GPS is not shutting off, which of course is a huge battery drain. Anybody else seeing this?

Seeing the exact same thing. Disabled its location services to kill it. Annoying.

Isn't knowing where you are a vital piece of info for it?

Yes, I'm seeing the drain too.

Yes, but I thought it would only do an occasional ping, not keep the GPS on constantly.

Google needs the constant GPS signal to help the US Government drones target you.

If you mean the location services in the iPad settings, they're under Privacy.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

For the Nexus 7 there's a buit-in widget you can put on your home screen called Power Control, which allows you to toggle the GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and screen brightness. I mostly just use it for WiFi, but the GPS button is useful if I ever need to use Google Now for navigation. I'd imagine there's probably some sort of GPS widget for the iPhone.

iPhones don't have "widgets".
