Better post this thread up now before we see a "Dakar's Modern Warfare 2 thread."

One the more reason to watch the NBA playoffs.

Why drop the "call of duty" title, there are much longer and ridiculous titles for games.
I would love to see

Why? Because it's obvious they want to make this a new franchise.

I just don't get the marketing from IW. What exactly can they 'premier' on the 24th? More shots of non-gameplay?

Common sense and IW haven't (in my experience) mixed well in the past (ref. CoD4 on Mac debacle).

I've been reading the sites/forums regarding MW2 and its always amazed me the number of people who don't get into the on-line stuff. I've played CoD4 once in single player and I only did a bit of CoD5: WaW due to connection problems. For me if on-line is good, then you can forget playing the solo stuff.

Which is exactly why most people who don't game online can't understand the popularity of Halo.

I'll be buying MW2 the day it releases, but I am wicked bummed than you still won't be able to do the campaign co-op. C'mon now...

At this point, I'm practically sad when you can only do 2 player co-op, let alone none.

Especially when you can play online co-op Halo 3 with four people.

^ Which means Modern Warfare 2 but done as ... (not WW2 AGAIN) ??

I tend to agree with the second comment :

Treyarch, just stop. Please. You will never be able to hang with Infinity Ward.

World at War was ok, but I was bored to tears with yet another overly scripted WW2 shooter. Once you go Modern Warfare you never go back.

The only way I see Treyarch shining is if they drop WW2 altogether and go distant future or something.

Funny, I thought one of the replies made a much better point:

@KillerBee: Yes, stop making absurd amounts of money. Stop making games that top the charts. Are you serious? Just because their games may not be as good as Infinity Ward's doesn't mean they should stop developing.
Particularly since a two year development cycle is preferable to the alternatives.

Dunno why, but WaW, just doesn't have the same gameplay 'feel' as CoD4. I loved CoD2. I lived CoD2 for a while (server admin, organizing matches, in a league etc), so its not the WW2 thing. The game itself just didn't grab me like CoD4 - or CoD2 for that matter. I can't describe what the issue is though.

No, I'm all for making money, but like another commenter says, if Treyarch put out (for example) 5 maps every two months for CoD4 for the equivalent of $10/10€ then I'm sure that they'd make even more money. A bit like the companies that make stuff for Apple products if you will.

One of the bad issues with CoD on consoles is the maps. On the PC you have loads of maps and special config developers. Don't like smoke, make a mod. Like a different cross-hair? Make a mod. Its a pity we don't see that for the Xbox.

Probably because it's a different developer.

One of the advantages of consoles are cheaters are easier to suss out.

Yes I realize that. I wonder what tech IW did share with them though. They surely wouldn't give away the crown jewels - which I presume are linked to the game engine. Not that I know anything about game development.

Very true. Even with Punkbuster streaming, we were still getting aimbotters and wall hackers on our CoD2 server. The cheats were always one step ahead - one of the reasons that I got an Xbox instead of getting another PC to go beside the iMac. Still, there are those that have modded controllers, dunno if that counts as cheating or not though.

Whatever. Every COD game has been great. Sure, WWII may be played out for some people, but WAW was a terrific game. Not only that, it was seriously challenging on Veteran mode. Whether its setting is WWII era or modern era, I'm happy with the games. Keep 'em coming is what I say!

New Details - Modern Warfare 2
A new mode in the game, called Special Forces, will consist of a number of isolated stages not tied to the narrative. There was no indication of precisely how many of these Special Forces stages would make it in, but according to Game Informer it'll be a "major part" of the game. More interestingly, while the story campaign will be single-player only, the Special Forces maps will allow two players to run through co-operatively.
At least we have some co-op play

in other news, i'm picking up COD4 at work tomorrow...

Correct me if I'm wrong.

CoD:UO = CoD 1 + add-ons = CoD:United Offensive
CoD2 = the most fun you can have with your clothes on
CoD3 = console only POS CoD2 wannabe
CoD4:MW = Infinity Ward developed, CoD4 Modern Warfare
CoD5:WaW = Treyarch developed, CoD4 (The game uses an enhanced version of Call of Duty 4's game engine with increased development in audio effects.) World at War (WW2)
CoD6:MW2 = Infinity Ward developed, probably even more enhanced game engine, probably even more blood / zombies / baddies than CoD5.
CoD7 = Treyarch developed who-knows-what-when

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare
Now that i've completed almost the entire campaign on veteran (currently on the last level) and have about 4 hours in multi, this is my review.

If you like FPS...buy this game.

The single player experience (while short) is unbelievable, on veteran its much more challenging(but not impossible). Worth the 40 bucks just to play through this. The multiplayer is about as good as it gets besides halo (IMO, but it has the makings to leapfrog halo), the ranking/upgrades system is unprecedented in the industry (with challenges, gun upgrades, unlocks, etc.). it has my highest recommendation.

If MW2 wasn't coming out so soon I'd already own CoD4. Until then I'll rely on Bethesda's herculean amount of DLC to tide me over.

Yeah, have fun saving the hostage on the airplane level on veteran. You literally have to blow through it and use your flash nades at the right times. 90 sec isn't a lot of time, but it can be done. Took me about an hour's worth of gameplay to finally beat it.

I completed all of the achievements except for this one, spend about 20 minutes trying it and WOW its hard. I only got to the hostage twice and shot them instead both times

Finally got the "Mile High Club", took me well over an hour and a half to complete, for a mission that you have exactly 60 seconds to complete, it sure was a b****.
Now that i have all 1000GS, time for more multi

I played CoD4 till I RRoD'd my xbox... man I loved that game. I'll be getting a new xbox to play MW2. WaW was fun, but it felt like... less of the same, if that makes sense.

At the end of the 3rd quarter of the Magic vs. Cavs game, they showed the trailer for Modern Warfare 2. Then at the end it said to go to Modern Warfare 2 to see the full uncut version and low and behold, it was there. Holy crap man, this is the must game to get this year! Nov 10 can't get here fast enough!

Call of Duty 4 reaches 13 million players on Xbox Live

Since I never hear anything about Halo, I have to assume it beats the piss out of it (though the merits of that are debatable). What really mars the issue, however, is sales really don't paint this number in a very favorable light. I can't locate lifetime COD4 sales, but I can't imagine them to be more than half the 13 mil. Lots of dupe accounts to be sure, I think.

Edit: Also, my biggest concern for this game: Vehicles. I love them. I need them. Include them. (Specifically in multi)

I feared this as being a big letdown for this game when i first started (i usually need vehicles to mix up the multi also) but with 26 hours of multiplayer in (i wish halo had a counter like this), i can say its one of the best (if not the best) multiplayer experiences on this generation of consoles.

Every map (except one) i really enjoy playing, the players usually are decent and the huge variety of game types (HQ is awesome) gives you lots of options (and most have enough players in them for fast matchmaking). The matchmaking system is a close second to halo and the upgrade/ranking system is unmatched (i only wish for a FEW achievements for multiplayer)
