What type of screwdriver does one need to, say, insert an AirPort Extreme card or some RAM?

I heard it was something like a "Torx" screwdriver ... ?

Yeah, it's the Torx T-8 screwdriver. You should be able to get them at any major hardware store.

Can't say for sure...I know the 17" has #0 screws, but it should be in your user's manual.

I ordered one from Macsales.com. Used to it to add ram to my powerbook.

It's a small Phillips. Don't know the technical name of the size, but it's the kind you would find on many small electronic devices.

the airport extreme is installed in the battery compartment of the 15" albook, no tools needed.

to get at the RAM compartment of the 15" albook you need philips 0 as stated in the manual..

Good to know, thank you. Do I need the Torx screwdriver at all, then?

Do yourself a favor and get a #000 phillips. The manual mentions #00 but those barely fit and you can easily strip the screw heads. If you check the Apple forums, others confirm that #000 are the proper size to use as well. And a few of your screws might already be somewhat stripped from the factory (like mine were) and it will be nearly impossible to use #0, #00 without destroying the screw.

The only time you would need a torx screwdriver is if you want to open the entire laptop and replace a harddrive for example.

See my post in this thread. It has the Sears product number for a screwdriver kit that was seemingly put together with the PowerBook technician in mind.
