French PowerBook?

Hi
I recently had a customer call me asking about a powerbook he needs some repairs and upgrade done to. He told me its a french power book, and that all the other repair places declined to help him once they head that, because the parts are different and hard to get. Does anyone know anything about this? I've never heard of this at all. As far as I've ever known, a mac is a mac. I know they have keyboards for different languages but I never heard that the internal parts/case pieces are different. If this is true, where does one go to find these items?

Seriously, I don't think there are any differences apart from the keyboard and the duck head on the power supply.

Also power supply is probably Euro version.

Is it France French or Quebec French? If the latter, it would be the same as any other North American Powerbook, I would imagine. If the former, then Euro parts, as suggested.

Not necessarily. The power supply itself is identical, the power cable is different. Other than that it's 100% identical with an "American" PowerBook

I'm going to recommend he just buy a newer machine anyway. He needs new hinges, wants more ram, bigger HD, a combo drive, and possible replacement top and bottom cases. I found a $900 1.25ghz g4 PB online that will be much cheaper and a much better way to spend his money. Oh well.

The book internals, software, and power supply are COMPLETELY IDENTICAL.
The only things that are different are:
- The paper documentation.
- The keyboard.
- The little plastic adapter ("duckhead") that fits on the power supply (not applicable to round "UFO"-style power supplies).
- The extension power cord.
- The tech spec sticker on the outside of the box.
Is it possible that you just got some stupid French-hating Freedom Tech™ on the other end?
If not, they are just clueless.
In either case, you should probably stop doing business with them.
(btw, just the bottom and top cases, or the hinges alone - which cannot be ordered without the screen assembly by authorized Apple Repair Centers AFAIK - will run more than the tiBook is worth.)

I had a French Powerbook battery once....it kept going down on me.

I know in Europe that we need to use ROHS approved parts but in USA or Canada this is not really an issue. That is the only thing that i can think of why some people may think that some of the internals maybe different. I think that Apple uses the same parts for everywhere though and that the internals should all be the same wherever you go.

All the power supplies are the same - I think they always have been for portable Macs. They work on 110-240v.
