I hope this is the right place for this question. I'm just about to make my final PC-switching decision and buy the sweet PowerBook G4 when I heard about the new iMac G5. Granted, it's not a laptop but why is there such a huge price difference? Aside from the graphics card, I couldn't find any other difference (hardware-wise) between the PowerBook (17") and the new iMac.

I know I'm missing something. What is it?
Switcher here! PowerBook G4 1.67 avec 2GB ram. Running 10.3.9.

I believe that you are paying a premium for portability.

The iMac G5 is small, but it is still much heavier and bigger than a Powerbook, obviously. Perhaps there is also a difference in the type of display (different backlight) that drives up the price of that component.

Anyway, unless you need portability (which is a definite need for many), the iMac G5 does look very attractive.

I read that the iMac has the airport card installed, too. I think it also supports dual display (I'm not sure about that one).

Airport I believe is BTO (not too sure and too lazy to check), but I know that it can't span yet unless the hack is utilized. Without the hack you just get mirroring for projector and TV purposes.
