Any ideas why the new airport extreme would not support gigabit connections when all the new macs sell with them?

i was wondering that myself, i really want one but the lack of gigE is the worst thing apple could do, they tout the feature built in every mac but their networking device doesnt have it - i really hope this changes by the time it ships in Feb.

It does not support gigabit connections because it was cheaper to make that way.

It's quite a let down for me too. I could now have a fast wireless connection from my notebook / imac to other computers in the network, but the 100mbit switch ports will be a bottleneck?
