With open source IM clients such as aMSN and dMSN does that help speed up development with interesting code snippets that could help you add features like avatars (like in MSN 6 for PC)?

aMSN is written in TCL, not C/C++/Objective C.
dMSN is written in Java, not C/C++/Objective C.

Don't worry, this stuff is coming to libgaim (and hence Adium and Proteus), it's not a problem of knowing how to implement it, it's a problem of it just not being done yet.

Thanks for clarifying that, it's nice to see to many quality IM clients all of the sudden!

So the devs have talked about a new contact list window for a while now, with the status circle replacements, service icons, away messages, user icons, etc. This is the only thing I want updated in Adium, everything else is secondary to me... I'm just hoping it's sooner rather than later.

And if I could I'd do it myself....too bad I can't.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

Not sure; Adam's apparently working on it right now. It was posted on the Adium message board; it will probably be available soon, but there was no timeline given.

Those color circles will be available when Adam Iser finishes the new contact list code. There is a similar hack you can find here, though:

1. Patch: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...07&atid=518088
2. Instructions: http://www.funmac.com/showthread.php?t=6881

Looks nice.

I like the simple "oblong" look though. ESP with transparent backgrounds.

For you MSN freaks

Just something to give you alittle hope that it's coming. (I'm speaking of File Transfer and Contact Icons or whatever they're called) A/V for Gaim is currently under a branch, but progress has been made on Yahoo, MSN, and AIM A/V chats.

Edit: Yeah... probably should've checked to make sure there were no /x00 chars in there...

does anyone know why adium is now crashing when you launch it? You have to launch it twice now, as the first time it crashes. Second time is fine though.

New version is out now, so I'll try and report back

Well, wish no more. It's in CVS (unfinished at this point)

This next update should take awhile.

New additions to CVS:
MetaContacts
New Contact List
AppleScript-ability (Not the current text insertion thing, it's full blown access to most features of the App)
And Rendezvous will start being bundled as a disabled Plugin. (like Growl is now)
