OK, so I'm set on the new 15"PB. Should I wait a few weeks (or days hopefully) for Panter to come with the machine?
Sounds like with Gold Master the release is not too far off.
Thanks,

I read in another post that anything ordered starting from a few days ago COULD ship with panther...
::fingers crossed:: since I ordered my 12" PB on 10-01-03

I think the wait could be as 'long' as 3 weeks, or maybe more. Panther is rumored to be out before the end of the month.
Nonetheless, I would recommend waiting. The money saved can be used to purchase additional RAM.
But hey, sometimes our irrational side just take over .

When I ordered my 700Mhz eMac in April, a model which was available before Jaguar was released, Apple included only an upgrade disk for Jaguar, which only worked if 10.1 is already installed.
I'm sorry but that sucked. Who the hell wants to go through the entire process of installing 10.1 just to install Jaguar? I ended up buying a full copy of Jaguar.

I would wait for a while to be sure you get Panther. With it this close, it would seem to be a waste of money not to...
Patience is a virtue and all that.
Although I would also wait until they fix the white spot screen issue with the 15's, so what do I know?
Peace,
Marc

I would wait.
Now, if you buy JUST after Panther, will you have to send in for an upgrade disk, for $20? I'd ask and make sure Panther will be in the box.
I bought my eMac/700 JUST When Jaguar came out. No reason to expect Jaguar to be in the box--and Apple told me it would NOT be.
But when I got my eMac, there it was. Not pre-installed, but there in the box. I don't recall if it was an upgrade or a full CD--but no big deal, I don't install my OS very often!

I'm in the same quandry and still haven't made my mind up. One more reason, though, for waiting is that the more time that goes by before ordering, the lesser the chance of getting one of the "first batch" defective 15"s.

I would wait if this new PB is your main and only computer....
Otherwise, if you have other macs in the household that you want to put Panther on, just go ahead and buy your 12". I'll have to check my packaging, but I believe the PB's either have only the software restore disks or nothing at all (that reminds me, I don't remember seeing any software cd's in the black PB box of mine I got 2 wks ago, yikes..!) You can't use these to install Panther on the other machines.

I waiting for Panther as well, i'd rather have it preinstalled than on some update CD which i know will take 2 weeks to arrive or maybe even more.
I live in the UK and the delivery of items is so lame even the ones that have same day shipping don't ship SAME day!
Anyway i have an iBook 800 combo to tide me over till then.
