Get yours while it's hot at Macromedia.

Haven't had time to install it yet, but after this long it had better be bug-free...

So now all we need is RealPlayer and we'll have every browser plugin necessary.

Optimizing these plugins (and the browsers that use them) for Mac OS X is next.

Just installed the Shockwave plugin. Early impression: needs work.

I attempted to play Shockwave Tetris. The rollover sound effect played but the background music didn't. The framerate (on my 400 MHz Power Mac G4 PCI Graphics) was frustratingly slow. I wasn't able to get the game to start; credits rolled but I couldn't figure out how to start the game.

why does it install only the version for IE? Does it work with other browsers, too?

Good question... Well Im going to install it now t find out..

**Update** It installs files into Library> Application support> Macromedia> shockwave>

So I would think that it is available to any browser. But, it doesn't work with omniweb. It does work (and works well) within IE.

***update to the update*** I think the issue with shockwave games not playing in Omniweb has to do with the issues Omniweb has with Java script. yes? no? any suggestions?***

Hope that helps.
-Steve

I just downloaded it.

Pros:

It's finally available.
It seems to work with OmniWeb 4.1 SP30 on most sites.

Cons
Installer doesn't ask for admin password.
Can't get it to work with IE for some odd reason. I'll look into this.
It prevents me from inputting info using the keyboard. Weird...

This was just a five-minute observation. I'll use it more today and see what's going on..

Didn't do anything to make it work with Mozilla, it just loaded the plugin on restart and works pretty damn well.

I installed it in /Library/Internet Plugins and it works like a charm for Mozilla... except no sound on the tetris.

Hey at least it's out.

I installed it and it ran fine in IE, Netscape 6.2, and iCab. It didn't work with OmniWeb 4.1 Beta 1 though. I think that has to do with OmniWeb's incomplete implementation of plug-ins.

My kids wil be happy that they can play games at Nick.com. Seem to work fine in IE. iCab acted funny.

A short update to my first impression: I was able to get Shockwave Tetris to play. It seems that the problem is the slow framerate. The introduction must be viewed from beginning to end before the game will play. When the framerate is so slow, this can be a long time.

Also, when closing the window with Shockwave Tetris in it, Internet Explorer crashes. (It often crashes Netscape 6 before it gets to the game.)

Let's hope that Macromedia gets an optimized version of this plugin to us soon.
