Hello,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is very frazzeled right now, so if anyone can point us in the right direction for help that would be great.

Here's the deal. A few days ago, her imac, G5, appx. 2.5 years old just quit. No warning, nothing, screen went to white. Wouldn't start up again. She's covered by Applecare, took it in and was told it's the HD, it's dead and gone and can't get anything back.
She's not a heavy user, Word, ipod, iphoto, no games or videos--needless to say she's upset about the loss.

Today her dad's 3 year old imac's screen showed a bunch of lines and his went down. He's taking it to Apple for their help.

They live in separate zip codes, so it's not about the house and wiring. This seems really weird to me, too coincidental.

I've done a cursory search on the forum and have seen some discussions about the logic board issue, but if others can provide more input that would be great.

Thanks.

Have they ever dusted the iMacs out? Does the dad smoke alot?

A HD dying is a fact of life, its bound to happen at some point and you never know when. Just tell your friend to buy a new HD and put it in the iMac or take it to a Apple retailer to get a new HD put in. I can't say much about her dads iMac till I can have more details.
Signature depreciated.
