A good place to look would be Craigslist, if you have it in the Dominican Republic.

I should point out that those cool Symbol-brand handhelds the dudes at the Apple Store use are...Windows based. Yes, it's true.

Since OS X doesn't run on weird little PDA things, I kind of figured.

Home - inTouchPos

I use one at one of my jobs. Seems to work fairly well. I haven't seen any crashes yet.

you need to a answer the following.
What are this system's requirements?
what are the requirements for the system that will replace the system you're shopping for now?
what information needs to be carried forward from current system to the next?
invoice history? Favorite customers with their favorite order history?
Do you need inventory and vendor ordering info to be tied in so that after so many sales of X a vendor purchase order is triggered?

What kind of support are you looking for? Willing to pay for?

There are Linux systems for this, but you need to decide on other requirements:
what touchscreen? Receipt printer? Credit card reader? Will it interface with your merchant services processing?
