I like the ability to record tv onto an internal hard disk but I notice that these are not so common. Instead there seem to be more models that record only to DVD-R or DVD-RW removeable disks. Am I missing the point? Would I be better off with one of these than one with a limited capacity hard drive? Appreciate any comments.

They do sell that model here aswell as the next model up which has a 120Gb drive. I am very tempted except for the fact that it's rewriteable format is DVD-RAM and not the more common DVD-RW.

What do you want with the recordings?
- Keep it for a short time (< 1 week), then choose HD
- Keep it for long time (years), then choose DVD
As mentioned before:
If you record it first on HD, later it can be copied to DVD. This option I can advise, because writing direct to DVD, can cause buffering-problems during writing.
The systems you need; you will find them if you know what you really want.
Good luck with your choice.
