Does anybody know of a good freeware genealogy app? Preferably a newer one (like in the last year or two).

The only free one listed on Softpedia, that is within the last two years, is GeneWeb.

There are other free ones listed here, but they're older than two years

edit: I see there is GenerationX, also:

I've been looking for such myself. I found iFamily for Tiger that was updated last week (says it woks with Leopard), and the reviews are great. Does anybody know if any of these programs will bring in data from a PC genealogy program? I'm about to get some data from a family member, and don't know at this time what program, so don't know what kind of file it will be, but thought I'd ask the general question anyway.

I was trying to use GenX but when I go to use it says: "This alpha version has expired. Please download the latest software from our website. The application will now quit." It is the latest software so I don't know why its not working. Did anybody else try it and/or have this problem?

Can't help you, beatles. You may want to look around Mac Genealogy Software or ask around on their forum.

I recommend LeisterPro's Reunion as the best genealogy program which is regularly updated and improved. Its at Reunion for Macintosh and is now on version 9 (which is the Leopard version). It definitely imports and exports from PC programs, and has by far the best graphics support for generating genealogy charts. I'm definitely a satisfied customer.
