I have a 15" AlBook, 1 Ghz. Is the power button supposed to light up and remain lit when the machine is on? Is there even a light in there? Sometimes on startup (and waking after a long sleep) it's hard to tell if the machine is on or not.

Hmmm. It looks like it should be lighted -- is my machine screwed up?

It made of CNC machined Titanium (in case of the Ti�s; and since the design hasn�t changed i suppose it�s still Ti). And it�s not ment to lighten up

no light up, i always wondered the same thing, and it would have been an easy thing to do, but oh well.

The button is not 100% metal you know. There is some kind of plastic that might let light through so it's not wierd.

sure why not, all they had to do was put a light behind the button. of course the button would have to have the logo fully cut out.

No, there is no power light anywhere on the 15 inch PowerBook. With the long black screen bootup times of these machines, I do wish at times there was one.

Even the Apple tech who replaced my screen today had to hold his ear to the machine to see if it was booting after he put it back togther. On average, it takes my system 10 seconds to actually turn on the monitor, or even longer if PRam settings were lost.

Let me put it this way. Would you rather have:

A) a lighted power button to show off.

B) an extra few minutes of battery life.

Personally, I'd rather have B. Lighted keyboards already cut into battery life enough as it is. Yes, an LED would probably not use too much power, but it's totally not necessary.

Just press the CAPS LOCK key to see if the machine is "on". (Props to the Genius Bar at Lenox Square for that one)

Not ideal, but a nice trick. Better than trying to listen for the HD. (Which is all but impossible unless you're in a completely silent environment).
