Thinking about upgrading to the NEW iPad, and thinking about getting the 3g/4g/whatever model.

My phone is on TMobile, so I don't have an easy go-to. How should I decide between the two or if I should get a prepaid mobile hotspot (MiFi, etc)

For $15/mo you can probably* make your Tmo device a mobile hotspot.

* I know Android and Blackberry are supported, I don't know about other devices.

I'm down in Portland, Oregon and around here Clear Wireless is the best bet. It's cheap, flat rate, with unlimited data and plenty of speed for my use. I use the USB modem dongle with my MacBook (no drivers or software required under Lion OS), but they also have a "MiFi" style wireless router that any device can connect to.

My AT&T data service (don't have it anymore) had equally impressive speeds, but data caps. My Verizon iPhone 4S has terrible speed and a data cap.

Just my two cents.

Anyone try the virgin mobile mifi etc?

I don't want a set $/mo plan as 95% of the time I'm near wifi... but for those times I'd not having a pay as you go plan would be great.
